To have your first brew come out as drinkable is quite an accomplishment. Not a lot of homebrewers can describe their first brew as "not bad".

Three weeks in the fermenter, then a minimum of 5 weeks conditioning. Except with darker beers like Porter's and Stouts you need about 4 months conditioning. Early on they will taste thin, but with a few months conditioning the beer will develop and the taste will become much fuller. Sit these back and leave them for a few months and then try one. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
