She's retiring from a sport she loves at 40 years old. What a run. She will be missed. Thanks for what you did for Women's tennis.

There will never be another like her. Truly amazing!! You wish you could keep them forever, frozen in time, Djokovic, Murray, Federer, Nadal, Venus, Kuznetsova, Henin, Klijsters, Mauresmo....so many

As much as I would've liked her to go out with a championship, she was worn out. She was playing basically everyday giving it all she had. No rest really. However with all that being said..what a phenomenal career. Nobody will ever come close to her status. Congratulations to the GOAT.

The word tennis is incomplete without Serena Williams in it. Even here in Zambia, we love you Serena

So moving indeed, and sad that such a glittering career is over. She won all 4 majors by the age of 22. That's greatness right there!

Wow I didn't think I'd get emotional but here I am teary eyed! I've been watching this woman's career for so many years, I grew up along her and I feel so in awe of her and what she's done. Wow. Congratulations to Serena on an incredibly inspiring career. Truly THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!

Literally, she will remain one of my personal, all-time favorite athletes. I started watching her in 1999. I grew up in Compton and will forever will feel proud to share a hometown with her.

She's been playing for eons. Won many matches and worked her ass off to the clouds and back to earth. One of the greatest athletes in the world. She's acheived so much and made her historical mark. Couldn't be forever. She's a real queen and empress. Will forever be adored. Started out a Princess and retired a god.

Serena Williams to tennis is what Whitney Houston is to music. My all time favorite tennis player Serena Williams, indeed you're simply the GOAT in tennis...

To all of you haters. You are jealous because she dominated the game for years. She is the greatest and an excellent player.
Congratulations Venus and Serena Williams. I never watched tennis before you two entered the game. Thank you queens of the tennis court. Some of us loved you two. The haters we don't care about.
Retire, raise your daughter and enjoy your family.

All the best to Venus and your entire family.

Love you forever queens.

I feel like I've grown up with the Williams sisters (I'm 41) and remember when they burst onto the scene at the end of the 90s. Really is the end of an era! Will miss the shot-making, poise and drama

The love she has for the sport is evident! The tears she’s shed shows how emotional it is for her saying goodbye to the sport she’s loved and the sport that lifted her up

What a career! I remember when she played against Steffi Graf in the Indian Wells Final in 1999.
