Watching this was heartbreaking. Naomi apologizing for winning. What a terrible audience.

Her humility is louder than the crowd. Naomi is truly a one of a kind.

As an American I'm ashamed of how the crowd treated her. The booing was inexcusable. It should have been a happy moment for her. She should have never apologized for winning. She deserved to win. She worked hard for this and she should be celebrating in this moment.

" Perhaps it's not the finish we were looking for today."

How can you say that when the winner is standing right there!! This was absolutely heartbreaking. Naomi had nothing to apologise for, she won because of her hard work and effort!

Katrina Adams said " Perhaps not the finish we were looking for today". Then proceeded to praise Serena the "Champion of Champions". What a way to devalue Osaka's win. That's why Osaka had to apologise. Such a disgraceful conduct. Shame.

This is painful to watch for Naomi. This woman's greatest achievement that she should have been most proud of has been trampled by arrogant fools.

Re-watching this knowing of her depression really makes you see how disgusting this entire situation actually was. How this crowd and the officials acted towards her was awful. You should never diminish a player's accomplishments - and that's exactly what they did here. I can't believe this happened to her and wish I could give her a huge hug.

This is the saddest thing I've ever seen

Japanese culture of respect, humility and politeness is deep in her. i have never seen a hero this humble and respectful of a rude opponent.

"Perhaps it's not the finish we were looking for today..." What is that even supposed to mean?? I am beyond ashamed of the mindsets of not only the crowd but also some of the people on that stage.

Serena to crowd: “We’ll get through this”. As if it’s some shared national tragedy.

She apologized for living her dream. I am so heart broken for her.

Naomi looked absolutely miserable. That crowd should be ashamed of themselves. Her whole moment was ruined. Her dream was tainted by all of this crap & I just want to hug her. Good for Naomi for having class, but there was no reason to apologize. She is a beautiful soul and deserves to enjoy such a great accomplishment.

Naomi don’t worry, the rest of the world won’t boo you.
Stupid people, give some respect for winner. Arrogant crowd thinking they are the best in the world that’s why they can’t imagine that someone else could be better —-

Imagine being a parent, a mother and seeing your daughter being booed by spectators. That is beyond heart wrenching! What is wrong with these people that Naomi has to apologize for even winning! SMH! I just feel for Naomi's mom and family during all of this time. It was her first win... and for the rest of her life ---- this is all that she will remember!

This crowd SUCKED! How could you boo such an amazing and strong tennis player?! I get that many wanted Serena to win, but this is just rude and unnecessary!

Naomi Osaka is one the most humble athletes I have EVER worked with, and I wanted to see her raise the trophy with the cutest (and at times, dorky) smile that she always shows during press conferences and postgame speeches. To be able to play in THAT atmosphere under that amount of pressure at just 20 years old is unbelievable. She is a true fighter and winner. Congratulations, Naomi!!🎾🏆 <3
