“The crew was miraculously unharmed…” He’s a psychopath. He was 100% aware of how dangerous this was and that it could potential cause serious injury or death.

Imagine being this kids parents. He’s a train spotter, a pretty low key hobby, he’s out looking at trains. They think, “we’re so lucky our child isn’t out doing anything bad like other kids”. Then this happens

As a rail employee, the padlock usually isn't just a little master lock from a hardware store. All the locks I use are these giant padlocks that are bigger than anything at a hardware store, has a special key, and these type of locks are approved by the DHS.

In higher speed areas with signals, mainline locks usually also have an electric lock too so even if someone removed the lock, it would trip the electric lock which doesn't let the switch unlock right away but also makes the signal for the section go red.

Clout chasing like this should be considered an act of terrorism.

Dude basically committed what could probably be considered an act of terrorism just for clout...

Wait until he realizes he is getting the bill for cleaning up his mess. That number will definitely get his attention.

Yep, nothing says "well-adjusted individual" like derailing a train for internet clout! What in the actual fuck.

Railroad employee here. The best part is, it would have been literally impossible for the crew to “forget to reline the switch” after setting out the defective car. No matter which direction they set the car out from, they would have had to reline the switch in order to get their train back together.

"Are they okay?!"
The absolute GALL to ask that when he caused it. To derail a train....He's lucky that no one was hurt or worse.

18 year railroad employee here, the padlocks they use are high security locks with special keys needed to unlock them. Its been a railroad safety staple for longer then ive been around.

Uh-oh. *Uh-oh.*

The potential consequences of such actions are horrifying. Authorities should certainly address this concern and enforce stricter security measures for public safety.

Another thing people do not realize about trains - there is no seatbelts for the engineers. They have a couple of hard chairs and a whole solid steel dashboard of switches and levers and handles and other machinery. Often they are standing up. If you crash the train engine, you are going to go flying, and in that cramped cab there is hardly anywhere to fly to before you impact something hard and sharp. A minor crash with a train car can cause a force to throw you onto the ceiling or against the windshield or the controls and cause concussions, lacerations, and much more. Many engineers have ended up dead in simple derailments or track washouts just from the train slowly tipping over onto its side, due to falling and hitting the myriad of sharp things in the cab.

My father has worked for a railroad repair company for my entire life. I have many memories of him getting called into work in the middle of the night because of a derailment. Not only is this incredibly dangerous but also INCREDIBLY disrespectful for the people whose job is to then clean up and repair after a derailment. This is disgusting.

“Unbeknownst to the crew; they forgot to flip the switch” bro thought this was the line that would be a key in his “innocence” lmao
