Fear not. We are building a new primer factory in Missouri. We have plans to open an ammo factory on the same land. We will be making cases, bullets and fully assembled ammunition. We also plan to build a gunpowder factory about 40 minutes away on a much larger track of land. Primer plant is first, we are expecting to be operational in 18 months. It has taken 5 years to get here. It takes a lot longer than most folks would imagine to put a team together, find the right investors and start to execute the plan. This CSG group that purchase Vista/Remington, Speer, CCI and Federal, is a serious problem that I don't think will be resolved. They can't easily ship ammo out of the country without a form 5 being approved by the ATF/Homeland security. They can ship it out to a country that would be approved and then ship it anyplace they wish. I think the bigger issue isn't the ammo being shipped out of the USA, it is the intelligence. CSG is going to have an inside pipeline as to the needs for ammo by our government and different agencies. In addition, they will want to recover that 1.91 Billion dollars they just spent, the most common way to do that is to raise prices on the products being sold. I would expect to see ammo prices increasing in 2024 by a significant margin. I would estimate that Federal, CCI and Remington account for about 65% of the US ammo production. It is time to bring manufacturing back to the USA and source as much of the raw materials as possible from the US. Hang tight, we are working around the clock.

No way that a company based in a foreign country should be permitted to buy large holdings of a company like that and more specifically, an ammo company.

PSA's ammo line and Sierra buying Barnes are the only shreds of hope we have for the future of ammo

Hi Jim, thanks for the great work you do, love backfire! However, there is no Czechoslovakia for almost 30 years now! Also, I m not sure which CEO of Czechoslovakian group (CSG) you are referring to. Current CEO of CSG holding is David Chour (as far as I know) and he not even close to be 27 years old...

CZ group buying Vista’s ammo subsidiaries really isn’t a bad thing. When they bought Dan Wesson out, they ended up bringing that company back from the dead and making it profitable. Looks to be the same way with Colt. TFB TV/James Reeves did an interview with one of their executives and just because they’re not Americans doesn’t mean they’re anti-American.

The 22 ARC is a SAAMI cartridge and prior to Hornady's introduction as the SAAMI cartridge it was known as a 22 Predator or a 22 Grendel wildcat cartridge and had been around for quite awhile.

High BC and SD bullets tend to exit. If you are keeping pelts, you want the bullet to remain in the animal to avoid more holes. That’s where 45-55gr bullets shine. Also, faster velocity makes for less guesswork at the average distance a coyote is taken (under 300 yards).

Since I just learned about the CSG group buying all the Vista Outdoors ammunition-related businesses from this video I did some quick looking and it seems CSG also holds majority stake (supposedly 70% of shares?) of Fiocchi. I'm not sure it this transfer of ownership is a bad thing -- especially given how squishy & squeamish the US financial industry & business executives have gotten regarding certain types of entirely legal 2A associated businesses. .. if I recall correctly Vista Outdoors was starting to plan spin off/sale the ammunition portion of the business off a few years ago.

While the ownership has gone foreign, I can't see them moving manufacturing out of the US as the US is too lucrative of a market for ammunition sales and importing arms/ammunition adds additional hassle. ...not too much to prevent foreign nations/companies from selling ammunition to importers for resale (e.g. Russian ammunition before Ukraine invasion, IMI ammunition which is also likely going to dry up in the US given current events), but enough that it'd seem like keeping production in the US (or at least certain parts thereof) would be the more profitable option.

...just me speculating though... but getting reloading components while they're available is probably still a good idea....

That being said. There are some good up and coming companies producing ammo, eg AAC, that we all need to rally around and help grow.

@backfire You should make a list of US owned and manufactured ammo companies/ammo components for people to selectively buy from if they can.

I was in bass pro on thursday and they had primers and powder in stock. Not everything, but enough that you could load any round. I was suprised that there werent limits on anything. They actually had remington primers which i havent been able to buy for several years. I also seen h1000 powder at another shot 2 weeks ago. Supply is there today but may be gone tomorrow. Reloaders better stock up now.

Federal has discontinued 7-30 wateers ammo. So any non super popular ammo is now on the chopping block. Large rifle primers are unobtainable. If you load anything that uses large rifle primers like 308 or 30-30 you have no supplies. If they do not start suppling large rifle primers you will not be able to load any cartridges that take them in the near future. We have a problem. I don't know if people have noticed this yet. We have a problem.

My Dad told me many years ago that primers were how they would take us out... Learn to shoot a Flintlock he said. You can always make powder and the Good Lord will always supply flint...

Lately I purchased 1lb of H4350 powder and 1 box of 50 Nosler Partition 180gr bullets, for reloading here in Canada.$250 absolutely shameful.

People focus on ammo, but to me it’s all about primers in the end… you can make most any other parts rather easily except the primers. The only option for easy primer compounds is Murcury which is corrosive.

The ammo thing is huge but people still won't figure it out.

Blame the manufacturing companies withholding ammo stockpiles on purpose to jack up prices.
