TOMATO Powder is Wonderful | Don't TOSS Those Scraps 🍅

Tomato Powder is super easy to make, and has a lot of uses. In today's video we'll go over how we make it, and talk about a few of the ways we use it to enhance our meals. We stared by placing all the leftover skins, seeds, and scraps, from our recent harvest, into our Dehydrator. We set the temp to around 115-120°F and let it run overnight (about 12 hours). If you don't have a dehydrator, you can also dry in your oven - set on lowest setting.
Collect up all your dried tomato bits, and place them into a highspeed blender or food processor. Pulse and blend to your desired consistency - jar it up and enjoy! ♥ The end product can be used to "thicken" various tomato recipes without altering the taste, and we also use it in rice dishes like jambalaya, and quite a few different pasta dishes to add both color and flavor.

When powdering stuff, put a sheet of plastic wrap under the lid to keep all the good stuff in the blender so none of it gets lost in the cap.

I bet this would be good in a sour cream dip or cream cheese spread with dried onion and basil.

I add to Spanish rice, taco meat, meatloaf. Hamburgers, roasted chicken, homemade salad dressing, .

Nice as a rethickener if put too much liquid in roux for brown sauce, plus it adds flavor. Mixed with some salt and sprinkled on popcorn, taste like ketchup chips. Add to ground meat for meatloaf to help bind instead of only breadcrumbs (any veggie powder really, not just tomato). Mix in water when cooking rice. Add to flour when making bread, with herbs, garlic powder, etc. Make compound butter.

I just really adore the tomato powder idea and started dehydrating mine, too, but to use the scraps, the leftovers, is ingenious! Have you tried dehydrating peppers, bell peppers, to turn into powder?? The other day, I ground all the spinach I had dehydrated over the year, got 1 quart of powder. I thought it would be useful for soups, pasta, and Spinach Dip!

I am thinking putting tomato powder or perhaps even a spinach powder into something like pasta dough might be something to try. It would not effect the liquid amounts in the recipe but it could still impart the flavor I might be looking for. Thank you for this useful information.

I never have any left over tomato pieces as I grind my cored whole tomatoes. Seeds, peels to, in my vitamix and get instant tomato sauce. Then heat it up and can it. Easy peasy!

Started making that powder this year for tomato paste. So tired of recipes that call for 1 or 2 tblsp of paste and then throwing the rest away or losing 20 little bags of tomato paste in the bottom of the freezer, lol.

In the southern states we call a recipe a suggestion. Start there and make it your own. I watch all of the videos you guys do! Thank you guys so much for all the information! First year small raised bed garden and so much learning, especially from your videos! I’m adding more beds next year. ❤️

One of my favorite things to make. It is a shelf ready instant flavor boost for soups and so much more.

I have found that it comes off of the silicone dehydrator sheets better than on the screens. 😁😁 I love BLT’s, but don’t always have fresh tomatoes, so sometimes I mix the tomato power with the mayo. Not as good as the original, but a close second.

Awesome idea, probably be tasty on popcorn with a bit of parmesan cheese added too!

Great idea and product. And good to have two different types of cookers in the same channel: “recipe follower” and “inspiration of the moment follower”. It allows to mix both more easily.

I have to try this! Actually the last batch of spaghetti sauce I made instead of adding store brought tomato paste I took out a jar of dehydrated roma tomatoes and used that to thicken the sauce. I plan on doing that again here this week to speed along my next batch of sauce canning. I think there are so many things to do with dehydrated tomatoes like this.
I bet Rachel is off on her girls weekend! Man she sure deserves it for all the content you guys put out this week and doing all without power! Wow!!! Hats off to you both! I hope you can have a relaxing weekend too....probably going fishing ;)

I use tomato and veggie powder in soups, stews, rice, and as a herb when cooking meat or other veggies.

If you put the sheets in a bag and roll the sheet it leaves most of it in the bag so it less of a mess. Easy to pour into the blender

Powder tomato, basil and chipotle powder go great in Mayo to put on sandwiches, in cold past salads, as a base for a creamy salad dressing and more. The excluding the Mayo, you use it as a seasoning for eggs, pasta, pizza, added to melted butter and garlic to brush onto toasted bread, and so much more.

I keep powdered mixed greens from the garden to toss into eggs, soups, casseroles, and many other things to add a nutritional boost. Especially those one pot meals where you need more veggies. (Even chili.)

Reminds me of the first time I made chili powder. Made the mistake of getting a whiff of the powder when I took the top off the blender. Dry heaved for 5 minutes.

I forget where I heard it, but dried and powdered fruits and veggies are great for making instant baby food. Just add water to reach the right consistency. I thought this was brilliant. Not sure the baby would be thrilled with tomatoes, but spinach, kale, apples, etc would be great.
