The weird thing is that the wii's that aren't compatible with GC still have the GC chip inside them and they still can run gc games with nintendont, Nintendo was high or something while making the family editions

Fun fact: Wiis with GC are called "Wii" and without GC is called "Wii Family Edition"

You are right about stock wiis, whereas modified wii family edition can play backup gamecube games, and with a USB adapter, you can use the gamecube controllers in conjunction.

Both are compatible with Gamecube games. But only one is compatible with Gamecube discs ;).

Even more fun fact: the later models of Wii, before the non-gamecube Wiis released, play GameCube games a bit better than the white models. What I mean is the RVL-001 models that came out after the launch model have a better video signal. Original models can have a blurred look but on later models, before RVL-101 models, they sort of fixed the blurring.

I ordered Wii but they gave me Wii Family Edition. Still a good deal because I ordered it with all the cables, a Wii remote and a Nunchukfor only €40
