Nintendo released a version of the Wii that could play GameCube discs and even included the extra ports and slots needed for you to plug in your controllers and memory cards! You also need a GameCube Memory Card to save files because the Wii Console Doesn’t Save GC Save Data directly to the System Memory

Funnily enough, I actually beat Ocarina of Time for the first time by playing the Zelda Collector's Edition Gamecube disc on my backwards compatible Wii. So I basically played an N64 game on a Gamecube, on a Wii.

This is so nostalgic to me, when i was younger i had a wii that could run gamecube games, and i borrowed super mario sunshine from a friend of my mother. To this day i still can't understand how he trusted a 10 years old kid with his copy of mario sunshine, but i am so glad he did cause i love that game and it will forever have a special place in my heart

the first "generation" of the wii was backwards compatible with the gamecube and it's the best version of the wii in my opinion.

They all do if you softmod them & put GameCube games on a SDCard. I did it & tested StarFox Adventures. 10 hours went by I was still playing such a Amazing Starfox game

Yup that’s one of the biggest reason I had bought a Wii, because I had the biggest collection of GameCube games, controllers, memory cards and I could still enjoy all of that if I had traded in my GameCube and got a Wii. Witch I ended trading all of it to get an Xbox 360 because I really wanted my own xbox for oblivion at that time. That’s why to this day elder scrolls and all BGS games are important to me, I always had a BGS game that I could always play inbetween new game releases. I was never and still am never bored of Elder Scrolls and fallout

There's another difference the writing on the front of the console is vertical on one and horizontal on the other as well as the symbols.

Another interesting thing is that a few games (like dance dance revolution 2 on Wii) use the gamecube ports on the Wii :)

I had no idea there was a flap to cover the GCN memory card ports. Guess mine got lost years ago.
