FEMA has $11 BILLION left to spend -- for all natural disasters including fires, floods, tornados, earthquakes. That is estimated to be able to cover immediate aid of various types to all affected by Helene and Milton. The Federal fund for emergency business loans is now empty. But Speaker Johnson refuses to call the House back into session, OR to use the process available to authorize emergency aid when Congress is recessed. The House must originate all spending bills, so people are going to suffer. He says that aid will arrive "in due time" and that when Congress reconvenes, the House will get right on it. But they have a budget -- or a continuing resolution again -- that must be formulated and approved within days for it to work its way through committee, House, Senate committee and full Senate, then to the President before a shutdown. That places aid on the back burner. And watch them blame that on the administration!
