Great video! My energy company offers OMR meter as an alternative. They will send people out to drive by and use a radio equipment to get the number every month. Do you happen to know if that is a better option? Thank you!

Would be nice if we more options, here are couple:
1) Allow the consumer to report the meter usage monthly through internet/phone/etc. $30-40 monthly charge for a manual meter reading is crazy.
2) Instead of constantly bombarding people with radio frequencies every second, minute, or whatever. How about if the meter only sent one active signal per month? I would love to have this option, super easy and convenient.

Infuriating that they charge $40 a month for someone to read a meter. Why can't it just connect with wifi to the router that everyone already has and send info that way? Or why couldn't we just take a picture of the meter and send it in to be billed. Or why can't they just leave well enough alone...

What i want to know....is ...is it still dangerous with its modem and zigbee chip removed? The power companies are saying these meters are 'not smart' because the modem has been removed and is therefore non-transmitting and will need a meter this mean they are safer in terms of emitting non-ionising radiation and not part of the worldwide system of surveillance. ???? Anyone know?

Smart Meters are noisy. The frequency level makes low hum all day long.
