It’s actually confusing because it’s actually said in source material that dk is crankys son and also that cranky is his grandfather and the fact jr hasnt appeared since dks appearance supports this

Plot twist: the DK from the Mario Movie is actually the grown up form of DK Jr.

Maybe Cranky Kong is Donkey Kong’s biological grandfather, but he raised DK as if he was DK’s father. I don’t think we ever see Donkey Kong Jr. and the current Donkey Kong together in the main series, so perhaps Jr. is unexplainably absent and Cranky had to step up and raise Donkey Kong.

Think about it, Miamoto was working closely with Illumination, that probably means he acknowledges that DK is Cranky Kong’s son. And I always thought DK Jr. Was the current DK anyway, so I didn’t really notice in the movie.

I'd be super happy if Donkey Kong Jr ends up being in the sequel as Donkey Kong's newborn son, with the two having a very wacky yet wholesome relationship throughout. Basically, the way it should've always been.

Actually there is another one, during the end of the rainbow road scene when DK and Mario was 2nd behind Peach and Toad the blue shell helmet guy went out of his vehicle, turned into the blue shell and hit DK and Mario instead of Peach and Toad even tho DK and Mario were 2nd.
