Never knew Ciaran was pronounced as Ciaran and not Ciaran

I guess she's talking about the Wolf Ring. It's located in a bit of an odd place in Darkroot Garden, far from Artorias' grave, so perhaps Chester did take it and put it there for safekeeping?

It would have been funny if you could give it to Ciaran, return to Artorias' grave in the future and find it again there. Perhaps it could even have given a slightly different or better effect that way.

Really surprised how this has only surfaced now. Long coat is obviously Chester but I wonder if he has extra dialogue regarding the ring Ciaran is talking about.

She sounds much more emotional with her in game lines. These sound very distant and don't convey her relationship with Artorias quite as well.

"He was a dear friend."
"He was a dear companion."

I recorded the first part on PTDE and the second one on the Remaster.

Playing Elden Ring made me want to play DS1 again just to go to the painted world and Oolacile, Ciaran is one of the best npcs in the game to me.

Thanks for uploading this! I feel like Ciaran has always been a little underrated, but that’s likely because From didn’t give her much to do. They didn’t even give her a proper face, haha. I would have loved an optional boss fight once you decide to attack her, not just an NPC scuff. Ciaran was one of the Four Knights after all, and could have made for a formidable boss.

I also love the little details surrounding her evident close bond with Artorias. She calls him a dear companion and says “my dear Artorias” when she dies…plus if you look at the grave, there’s Artorias’ black hairpiece and a flower there. Plus, the game suggesting that she literally died there too? Bro that’s some tragic stuff.

I know people tend to say it was a one-sided thing because Gough only says that Ciaran had strong feelings…but man, all the little details kinda make me wonder if they had something there. Imagine if they had some hidden descendants in the story. That would be so damn cool. I used to have this theory that the land called “Farron” was named after one such descendant or something. Maybe the wolf of Farron belonged to this person. Imagine how interesting that would be. The power of the Soul of Artorias passed down through generations and giving power to the Undead Legion. I’m kinda obsessed with the idea. Everything in Dark Souls 3 is about legacy after all.

Cheers Crestfallen!

What’s interesting is you find her ring at the grave of Artorias not the wolf ring. I wonder if Chester was meant to keep it with him till he died…maybe not too far from where we encounter him in a distant future

Maybe they chose the first one because the soul is more important than the ring, for replayability at least.. Any ideas?

We really just gave away our backup plan, and all she had to do was ask...

Why did they cut this dialogue? She sounded so eager and kind of theatrically exaggerated with "would you be willing to part with it?" after saying that he was a dear friend, this sounded strange to me. Hearing her cut lines made her dialogue so much better.

I miss the echo'y' voices of demons souls.

Immediate assumption is that the ring would be the one required for the 4 Kings fight, setting up a paradox loop of you looting the ring from Sif so it can be given back to Ciaran who dies at the grave leading Sif to protect it. In which case they likely cut it to avoid people locking the game.

But it’s equally possible the ring would’ve been a completely new item in the DLC. They had intentions of making a fight with Chester more involved at one point, and maybe a ring he looted from Artorias would’ve been your reward for beating him?

I know the Wolf Ring is also speculated, but from a narrative and gameplay perspective turning that over just seems like it adds nothing? Which in turn could be why it was cut. Or even the ambiguity of the question, with players uncertain which ring she was asking for, led to problems of people not willing to risk handing one over?

I thought it was interesting how Caria/Carian in Elden ring is a slight anagram of Ciaran
