Pekka Koivisto - Guitar Duo

Guitar Duo (2020) was composed for guitarists Elias Lehti & Kasperi Leponiemi, and the piece received it's public premiere on the September 2020 Kitara Nova-festival, which is an annual guitar festival held in Helsinki, Finland. The festival was scheduled for April 2020, but unfortunately due to the covid-situation, the date was changed.

About the piece: I wanted to create a guitar duo that relies heavily on the use of natural harmonics. Using them, I was able to create large, heavily sustained, bell/harp-like soundscapes. They also enable a much wider usage of the register on the guitar, which in turn opens up new expressive possibilities. The material which doesn't use artificial harmonics, is also created with the intention of letting the notes sustain as much as possible.

As a guitarist myself, I admire the interplay between the two guitars. Well done!

Just a slight technical issue: the audio for the quiet sections is very low, especially when harmonics are being played; this is not a problem of dynamics as such, but of the decibel levels themselves. You don't have to be a production guru, but even a small amount of mastering knowledge goes a long way getting your track to the right loudness levels for online streaming.

Otherwise, great job on the piece itself!
