How to grow Hollyhocks from seed. It's easy with these tips to get a succession of healthy hollyhock seedlings growing in late autumn and continuing through to the following spring and early summer. Grow Hollyhocks exactly where you want next year's display with no seed trays, no transplanting, simply hoe out surplus plants, leaving the healthiest and strongest growing plants in their flowering positions.

Hollyhocks are impressively large biannual and short-lived perennial plants and come in a huge range of colours, planted en-masse they can give a wonderful mid and late summer display.
This Hollyhock video was shot in Norfolk England during summer 2020

I'm in Central California and have a backyard full of Hollyhocks. I have found a way to easily treat the rust without pulling off the leaves. I take a one gallon sprayer and mix in 1/4 cup each of seaweed/kelp liquid, fish emulsion, fish fertilizer and sugar. Spray both sides of leaves. Rust gone!

i planted some and a beautiful show this year. i pull up tiny new plants and grow them in sand pots, i don't wait long to transplant in the garden, seems to work. now that it's october i'm p
transplanting them straight to the garden, hopefully they'll come up in my additional hollyhock garden. will put seed on the ground for winter too...i have squirrel visitors, will they eat the seed...for those situations i put small water bottles in the ground with the bottom cut out, like a mini winter sowing...without the bottom the plant can grow straight into the ground in spring...then the bottle can be carefully pulled out once the plant is bigger...no squirrel snacks...did that for sunflowers this year, first round of planting the squirrels got the seeds...i out smarted them the next planting. thanks for the attached blog, very good information.

My favourite plant. I live in Cromer. I'm hoping for my seeds to really go for it this year, I collected some from Mount Street 😊

I really like your gravel garden - with little bushy plants growing through. We want to make something similar in our front garden. Do you have a weed membrane under your the gravel? or do you have it just in some areas and not others?

Hi, I'm a new to gardening, I have a question, do you pinch hollyhock in seedling stage, to promote more branches? If it grow taller do I need to trim?

The seed pack said to protect seedlings from frost with cloches which I did and they survived the winter. Other plants in my garden that I didn't protect from frost weren't so lucky and in my honest opinion the frost would have killed those seedling hollyhocks for sure.
