My curiosity is driving me crazy wanting to know what that glass jug thing is with all the plastic cups attached to it

I remember when I was a kid and my physics teacher showed the same thing with a gyroscope, it blew my mind and I ended up begging for my parents for months to buy me a gyroscope until I eventually got one for christmas, still have it to this day on my desk.

If the spin rate being low means low stability in the system... I'm hearing "So here's my cordless drill, let's speed it up!" :D

Thanks to YouTube for the recommendation and helping to see practical happening of theory in ROTATIONAL mechanics

I'd love to see what happens if you hook a power tool to it to REALLY get the angular momentum up

Nah you can't trick me, that's just where you put the demon core on a hot day.

Now THAT is friggin cool! I'd like to see it with a high speed rotation.

Finally something I’ve never seen before, that’s amazing!

And that up-and-down arc it is making is called nutation!

This is blowing my mind. I’ve never seen any demo quite like this and I never in a million years would have assumed it would have moved like that. Now I want one.

The first time I held a gyro as a middleschooler was magical! I was fascinated. My physics teacher was so happy to see the wonder and joy in my eyes as I kept spinning it up and moving it around in speechless amazement. Then I eventually saw the bicycle wheel gyro later in life and it was so cool to actually spin on a chair purely due to the forces at work. When I got a motorcycle as a Junior in HS it was fun to "countersteer" on the winding road to school. :) You push forward on the left handlebar which you would expect to move you to the right, but instead you end up leaning left as the whole bike tilts over and consequently the bike drifts over to the left instead of the right. Very interesting sensation.

Earned a subscriber, I love microlearning really interesting topics rather than doom scrolling crap - great content

I love how your lab/office looks idk why but wish I could work in such a place.

You should use a drill to get it rotating at high speeds so that we can see the system destabilize as the angular momentum grows weaker than gravity

I just wish I came across edu chanels like yours ..(specifically for phy and chem). I would have cracked my entrance easily🥲🌚

Thanks a lot, I've been struggling greatly to truly understand gyroscopes for years now, and this video helps a lot.

I can't believe I never thought of air bearings being a thing.

That's what I have to deal every morning when I wake up.
