Using a Windows Phone In 2024 Review

Last year I made a video about using Windows Phone in 2023, but how is it using them in 2024? Let's find out together!

In this video I will talk about why it was ahead of its time with the interesting features that it had. For example the Microsoft Lumia 950 could turn into a computer with microsoft continuum. So how does that work today? And why did windows phone fail? Will there ever be a new Microsoft phone?

I am looking at multiple models in this video. Specifically, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, the Lumia 550, 650, Nokia Lumia 1020 with a massive 41 megapixel camera, and the Microsoft 640 XL.

Some of the models I am looking at today are running on Windows 10 mobile, while others are on Windows 8 mobile. But sadly Microsoft never made a Windows 11 mobile.

Actually, the lack of apps is the reason for me to consider buying a Windows phone in today’s distracted world.

I miss live tiles so much... Windows Phones were indeed ahead of their time. And my humble 635 Lumia never felt slow.

Well, Windows Phone isn't bad, it has smooth animations but very limited app support.

I have work tomorrow, and it's late, so I'll try and keep this short. I had a Lumia 650 when I was maybe 15, because it was offered as part of my family's phone plan. I genuinely believe it was the best phone I've ever had. The screen was gorgeous, it was thin and light, the camera was great, and it handled everything my 15 year old self could throw at it. One day, I stepped on it and broke the screen before a school trip, and I was gutted. It's been 7 years (Jesus) but tonight I bought one from eBay for very cheap. I know life will always be more complicated, and that's just growing up, but I think this could be a good step to simplifying things. Thank you for the lovely video 💖

I blame Steve Balmer for the failure of the windows phone. When the iPhone came out he was laughing at Apple and Google took advantage of Microsoft being stuck in their medieval minds and released Android. When MS realized their mistake, it was too late.

Live tiles were an incredibly good idea. Windows always offered users the option to view icons as detailed, small, medium, large or tiles, so live tiles seemed like a fantastic progression - and it was so clever what they did with their logo, turning the 4 windows into a 4 live tiles symbol. I can't help but sit back sometimes and marvel at the genius that was Microsoft's software design team back then.

Then along comes Windows 11 and wow was it dumb and awkward. It was such a big downgrade from Windows 10 and I can't believe they ditched the live information idea all together. They don't even give you live icons, which even iOS/macOS has these days.

I think Windows Phone 10 and the Lumia brand should have continued. If Microsoft had stuck with it, even if it was operating at a loss, I think the platform would have slowly gained traction to rival Android and iOS.

I want that users should request Microsoft to start making windows phone again. Because android sucks with battery consumption while windows was great to deliver power efficient performance

If it was not for their laziness which resulted lack of app development, they would be competing with apple now.

I had a Lumia 640 and I still miss it. It was my first smartphone, and I bought it at the end of 2016, when everyone already knew that Windows Phone would not gain the popularity it deserved. And for the first smartphone, it was incredible. I will never let go of the memory of its wonderful user-friendly home screen, smooth operation, built-in office and black theme. Even the phone app with the huge answer button was much more user friendly than any phone app I've ever seen on other phones. I would have used that phone longer, but first they closed the Microsoft Store, and then my poor thing just ran out of memory. I had to factory reset it and was heartbroken when I had to switch to Xiaomi. I never felt the same emotional connection with this phone that I had with my Windy - yes, I named my Windows Phone. I know it's weird and silly, but I actually loved him.

I wish Windows would restart the real "Windows Phones"! If they learn from their previous mistakes (e.g. app support) - it would be VERY interesting for business users!

Thanks for the video. I used Windows phones for years, still get them out and play. It's such a shame, that they weren't more popular.

the lack of apps is what killed Windows Phone.

I have a lumia 650 XL, I used it for months (Nov 2023 - Jan 2024), and I loved every second of it, I didn’t have the PC stuff but it was peaceful, no bs apps bugging me!

Not enough people bought Windows phones, but those of us who did really remember them fondly. I didn’t feel limited by the lack of apps; it did everything I needed it for and the ability to move and resize tiles was beautiful. I even tried buying a new one after Microsoft pulled the plug but my carrier (AT&T) couldn’t find me one despite showing a Lumia in their system.

It's the lack of popular apps that killed these phones for me.
I had a Lumia 550 until I smashed it😅

I remember walking around stores and stuff when I was 7 and 8 and always thought the phone looked beautiful, obviously I didn't get one since I had a IPhone 7 at the time but it was nice to see them.

I don't remember exactly what I had but it was an HP device and it was at the very end of the Microsoft Windows ecosystem. It was a really really nice phone for its time. I think back then it only had maybe three gigs of RAM but it was so smooth so sharp! Loved it
