Yes, this video is lacking some genres (especially Techno subgenres) and has some other mistakes in it as well. I might fix them in a future version.

Well, thanks for expanding on my video i guess. I know my video has many mistakes and is kinda outdated at this point. I should remake it probably but I can't be asked anymore, so glad someone did. But I could have gotten a shout-out or something, since you are obviously heavily inspired by my video. But good work anyways.

Guide to Hard Dance Music:
Hardstyle has evolved from Hard Trance (took the reverse bass and structure). Over the years it got more influences by hardcore (techno). Todays hardstyle sounds very different from the early days and had got a lot of subgenres. If Gabber is a genre or just a term for the subculture is controversial. But when its considered a genre then most people refer to Oldschool Hardcore (or Early Hardcore). Hardcore nowadays also sounds very different from oldschool hardcore and has a lot of subgenres. Therefore the earlier versions of hardstyle and hardcore can be called as genres too because they sound so different. There is also Jumpstyle which was mainly influenced by hard house from the 90s. There is also Happy Hardcore which also has variants as the dutch happy hardcore from the late 90s, UK Hardcore from the 2000s, J-core and spanish Makina. I hope you can see that there is a lot more about Hard Dance Music as shown in this video (which isn't a bad thing but I just wanted to give impressions of this music)

Anyone else just trying to organise their spotify playlists but you are struggling to decide on what genre each song is?

I love that vaporwave, outrun and future funk are now common genres. I remember listening to eccojams back in 2011 and thinking, what is this...masterpiece.. now it's a common part of our culture. Makes me happy bruh.

The best guide I've seen on yt yet. You could go a bit more specific bout techno and harcore tho, but great work anyway!!

This vid is great because it easily points out the differences while also referencing similar genres; simplifies it out and is easy to understand.

A 19 y/o metalhead from India here. Listening to rock & metal since I was 8. I was so enclosed & specific to this genre and culture that I missed out on a lot different & equally beautiful forms of music out there.
Beginning of this year and I pledged to research and find out about all different sorts of genres (not neglecting my metal roots but being open towards everything).
After watching this whole video I think anything in Trance music connected really well to me so I'll probably explore that subgenre first.
This video was very helpful, thanks a lot.

Also, if anyone can leave some song suggestions below then I'll be grateful ❤️🍁

bro, you should at least give credit to the guy that made the 2015 version since you just made a better one, you even copied some of his very words.

Prepare for a long as comment from me lol Basically my thoughts on each subgenre; It's kinda easy to see where my interests lie

Classic - Praise for the origins of one of the most creative and diverse umbrellas of music out there

Electropop - Modernday & general electropop don't really interest me at all really :/

New Wave - ...Yes

Eurodisco - Funky grooves and everything, this in tandem with Nu Disco (which I'm guessing is probably coming later/ I can enjoy on like, certain occasions

Electro - Yeah, distinct differences between the 'Electro' from now, and then

Techno - Might actually be a little more interested in older time techno than modern techno

Detroit Techno - Someone make a meme out of this song please

Italo Disco - Interesting, wonder how it got there

City Pop - _interesting_

House - Ah yes, good old dependable House. _and it's many derivatives_

Electro House - Amongst my favorite subgenre of the House genres

Big Room - A progressively boring subgenre in all honesty, it's nice until it's just repetitive and every other song sounds the same

Disco House - Like Disco, I can respect it for what it is. However what I didn't say before, it's not always the best song if it's the same trope or vocal just repetitive with every 4-4 beat though. Gotta be in the mood for it

French House - The world could use more of this tempo of house, especially with today's production

Progressive House - In short, beautiful when done right, beautiful with amazing production. Capricorn by Xan Griffin is an amazing example of this.

Deep House - Deep House nowadays I feel like in some ways doesn't do its job as much as the older style accomplished, but I'm guessing that's a production thing

Tech House - I think I do listen to alot more Tech House than I give myself credit for; Meanwhile, this melody is catchy as hell, but then again Gramatik is awesome

Acid House - I need more Acid House with today's production, my lord that'd be amazing

Bass House - Oh how I love me a good Bass House track; So many good ones lately

Tribal House - The world could also use more of this

Ngl, kinda wish Commercial House made an appearance, but honestly I could see it crossing in veins where it was already covered ;v;

Garage - Definitely went more chill over the years imo

Latin House - I- Wouldn't have thought about this, definitely not a genre I've heard of. When I saw this I immediately just thought of Time Flies by Padé & Murat Salman lol

Tropical House - With today's stuff, it's pretty generic stuff pretty much

Eurodance - I feel like if I really went into this, I'd endip in Touhou/Doujin genres

Nu Disco - Figured this would be in here, really great stuff in this pocket, tbh

Electro Swing - WE NEED MORE ELECTRO SWING IN THIS WORLD, THANKS. Catgroove is an awesome fucking song, ugh so catchy

Trance - Trance at a glance really isn't my cup of tea, I only really like a handful of trance songs.

Classic Trance - I do respect it, but I'm not confident enough to say I'd like it

Vocal Trance - Eh

Progressive Trance - Maybe if I'm in the mood for it I can get lost in it

Uplifting Trance - Lift You Up by Stonebank is probably my favorite song from this subgenre

Psytrance - I can tolerate modern day psytrance tbh

I think Hardpsy has been making some what of a reappearence and I'm more than welcoming it

Breakbeat - Nothing really beats a good breakbeat tbh

Big Beat - if it weren't for the label title, I would've never classified this as a genre lol

Nu Funk - Funky breaks = Good breaks

Jungle - 🤔

Breakcore - I'd totally listen to more Breakcore if I could find some

Rave Breaks - RaVe

2-Step Garage - Yeah this falls more in line with what I'd listen to in Garage. Thanks, Direct.

Progressive Breaks - This is a thing that exists, cool

Bass - Very broad, very immersive

Baseline - I would align this with modern day Bass House with weird production in all honesty, but I get this being seperate in an older era

Future Bass - Yes, yes. Grant, forever will be my favorite Future Bass producer. Future Bass can be done in so many different ways too, it's cool. Just annoying when alot of them sound the same, or some are heavy to the point that they sound like Melodic Dubstep

Drum & Bass - I love me a good DnB track, mmm

Neurofunk - I love me a good grimy Neuro track, ugh- I live for it, a sure contender for one of my favorite subgenres

Other Dark Bass stuff like New Beat, Midtempo, Neuro, Halftime, shit's my jam

Liquid DnB - I may not be able to get lost in trance, but u can get lost in some Liquid stuff

Dub - _imagine_

Dubstep - Has my whole heart and about 40% of my music library of it's subgenres

Brostep - Might be fair to say it's one of my favorite Dubstep genres, both new era and old

Drumstep - Catch me with a drumstep song with a Drumstep, Dubstep & Drum N' Bass drop and I'm headbanging

Other stuff like Melodic, UK, Riddim, and occasionally even Metalstep are also pretty dope

Trap - Love me a good Trap song when done right. Usually preferred without rap lyrics or ballad vocals

It's derivatives like Hybrid, Melodic, Future & it's close pairings like Carnival

Bounce - I suffer from the same problem I run into with Big Room

Moombahton - Yo, a good Moombah track? Kinda slaps.

Moombahcore too.

Glitch - A good glitch song hits great

Glitch Hop - Yeah, TheFatRat is an amazing example of this pocket. Glitch Hop has some catchy ass songs my word

Complextro - A great complextro song cannot be beat, nobody can tell me anything

Hardcore - More and more I've been getting songs that are catchy from this pocket.

Industrial - Honestly, I think I do like this genre more than I give it credit for

EBM - Hard pass, thanks lol

Hardstyle - Nowadays I think it's more marked by the signature kick

Hard Dance - Love a good Hard Dance sing. Hero's drop was a great example of this

Gabber - So would modern Hardstyle be evolved Gabber then?

Futurepop - I like how eurodancy this sounds lol

Hardbass - Love me that Thicc _donk_

Synthwave - Like Trance, I respect it, but on rare occasions will I listen to it

Outrun - this is a really cool subgenre name

Darksynth - ok this sounds epic

I think Synthpop would be worth a mention here, the stuff of Porter Robinson, F.O.O.L, Madeon, Kinda thing

Chill - Downtempo is cool

Chillout - Soothing, though I think this might be more inline with Lo-Fi, which I really think should just be its own genre at this point

Ambient - I can't ever take Ambeint songs seriously. Exception to like two, Sea of Voices (if that's even Ambeint) and Another Place by Duumu

Chillstep - Rare for me to enjoy a chillstep song but hey it's there

Lo-Fi - Ah yes, so it is a genre, cool

Trip Hop - Imagine-

Vaporwave - Lol, I'm really not in touch with vaporwave style lol

Chillwave - ^

Ambient House - This is a thing? Interesting

Dream Pop - Actually, this is a really cool concept, I'm intrigued

Spacewave - Mhm

Other - I'd definitely classify On Melancholy Hill as Synthpop. Not a Gorillaz fan but this is kinda cool

IDM - Literally what everyone thinks Techno is- I'm not the biggest fan of Aphex Twin by any stretch, I do wonder why people like this. Maybe it's the same appeal that people have to "pop/modern art" it doesn't do much to barely be called art, but in this case - music.

Nu-Jazz - I wouldn't doubt that this exists. I think maybe someone the likes of Synergy Sound can pull this out if they were willing. Maybe even Haywyre

Chiptune - Cute stuff, but I'd always rather Glitch Hop

Future Funk - Very groovy stuff, I could see Madeon leaning in this direction in a track soon, very danceable

Nightcore - I wouldn't call this a genre, I'd call this an editing trend.

Eurobeat - Yeah, I'd lean into Doujin stuff if I'd try to go into this

Mashup - Nothing beats a good track with switchups and mashups

Overall, pretty gud list. I'm going to sleep lol

This video gives a good overview and introduction to electronic dance music although there are a lot of mistakes in the harder styles of edm (which you called "hardcore"). But I have to say, as a person who has been listening to hard dance music for years by now, that its pretty hard to differ these genres correctly for a stranger.
For example, hardstyle has evolved from hard trance with influences of Hardcore techno. Or "hard dance" isn't really a genre. More like a term for the dances or the harder electronic music (genres) itself. Also some people associate "hard dance" with hands up. That's just my personal view because I've never heard of these definitions in the years I've listend to this music. Nevertheless i appreciate the work you put in to it. The purpose of the video to show people the immense spectrum of edm is good is achieved. (sorry for my bad english)
