I love the blend of accuracy and anachronism in this show. In some ways it makes inspired cosplay easier because you can make the effort for certain things but completely excuse any shortcuts you need to take. Don't have any way to get the "right" shoes? Olu wears crocs! I'm actually pretty astounded at how many versions of the pink robe fabric I've seen linked in various groups. Usually we have to paint or dye something to get even close, but all the fan gatherings this summer and fall are going to be full of the pink robe and I love that.

I finished this last night and I can't think of anything else since. It is officially my favorite show, and the best queer rep I've come across. Jim is the only nb afab representation that I've connected with, and the actor is also nb. Oluwande is best boi. Soft Blackbeard gives me life, and the scene where Stede folds the red fabric into Eds pocket made me cry. Also talking about costuming my fave is the hot topic belt headband. 😂

I love that they went full 100% accurate Mad Max for Blackbeard **and tummmmy** I love this analysis, the costuming it’s so well-done. Makes me extra happy cus Rhys Darby has said that his backup job that he’s always wanted to do is being a re-enactment actor because he loves the costumes so this was probably a dream of fabulous historic outfits + comedy + just fooling around with his bestie. Anyways I’ve just subscribed!

A little costume detail in the show that I learned about yesterday (thanks to the wonderful Rindecision on yt) is that Stede wears a black tie around his neck in the first few episodes but after he and Ed swap clothes Ed continues to wears the neck tie for the remainder of the show! I’m weak!! I love the costume details!!

I have re-watched the show several times at this point and I am always spotting some wonderful costuming detail I hadn't before. I am so excited to see the costumes for season 2.

my fav thing about the Jim plot is that I literally DID NOT NOTICE that Jim went by they / them the rest of the series... because English already does this and people who get upset about pronouns need to get over themselves.
