for those who don't know, when the girl first lit the match, she was going through her first stage of hypothermia which caused her to see visions. a person dying from hypothermia will get into a sort of dreamlike state drifting in and out of consciousness and they may have visions of random things. Dying from hypothermia is often perceived as a slow and painless death. It may be slow but by all accounts, it’s not as painful as people believe.

Was very sad when she died... SAADDER when the dog came tumbling down while bringing food for her . :(

This story is heartbreaking...theirs a lot of people like her out there...This is somewhat how some people treat poor people cruely, and they think they are better because they have money and some people don't...This is heartbreaking and touching😔😭😪☹️

I first read this story as a little boy.

It was the first book that made me cry.

I then watched this film many years later. It made me cry.

I'm watching it again now, and... I'm in floods.

This rendition of the Little Match girl is just BRILLIANT beyond words, it is heart breaking from the start, I rarely cry but this certainly tore my heart in two the graphics are just beautiful so true to life and the music intertwining with the scenes beautiful full of pathos, here is a child SO desparately hungry selling matches for food to eat only to end up dying in the cold all alone, no human company but a lovely dog for a friend, the way the matchgirl strikes matches in desperation to hold the visions she sees is yearning for warmth, food, and comfort, every ones need, her last match sees the vision of her grandmother and in desperation she lights all of them to keep the vision alive, hugging her grandmother and in return her little soul is taken to heaven, beautiful but so tragic, great work.
