The Little Match Girl (1937)

This is a 1937 animation short from Charles Mintz's Color Rhapsody series produced for Columbia Pictures.

The Little Match Girl" was first written by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen. It's the story, about a dying child's dreams and hope and it was first published in 1845.

This is a re-upload from Steve Stanchfield. He runs Thunderbean Animation, an animation studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan and has compiled over a dozen archival animation DVD & Blu-ray collections. All I did was slightly alter the color tint palette

I seen this cartoon for the first time ever in early January of 2022 just over 2 months ago on metv's toon in with me, and it crushed the living daylights out of me as it touched my heart. I'm glad to see that this can be seen on the internet.

I love this cartoon what a classic. It also sad to. I don't like how the grown ups treat her. She is more grown up than the adults. If I saw that little girl I would take her in adopt her and raise her as my own. She will have food and water milk juice clothes toys and will never have to worried about her future again.

Bobby Darin sang a song called “Artificial Flowers “. This cartoon reminds me of that song. There are a lot of homeless children out there that nobody cares about. It continues to this day. Saying this is a tearjerker is an understatement.

A pretty little girl I wish she did not die in this cartoon. Instead I wish a loving couple had adopt her. In today world there are some kids that get mistreated like this and it really sad.

I worked for years at a shelter for children like this. Sources were cut and many died. There were no angels to carry them up. I don't believe in angels anymore. We were all they had.

Unpopular opinion: Although this short is quite good and underrated, the Disney short film was better in terms of being more faithful. Both films were pretty dark, but the Disney one takes the cake in my book. But that doesn't mean this shouldn't be forgotten either.
