Bee specimens are often covered in pollen and have matted hairs. Both of these can make them difficult to identify. To get the most beautiful specimens that are easy to identify it is necessary to wash and dry them so they are clean with fluffy hairs. Nash Turley leads a tutorial for a cheap DIY methods for drying bees with minimal equipment, primarily a jar with a screen top and a hair dryer. This is just one way to do it, but it seems to work quite well.

Great vid. Would this work on diptera as well? I have a few very hairy specimens that could use a clean and fluff before pinning.
