Valve has announced a new Steam Deck OLED model, joining what it is now calling the Steam Deck "LCD" (original) models. The Steam Deck OLED includes a new screen, which itself Valve says will bring improvements to thermal performance, acoustics, battery life, and repairability. The Valve Steam Deck OLED enters a market that's growing with alternatives from the ASUS ROG Ally, the Lenovo Legion Go, GPD Win series handhelds, Aya Neo, and more. The new Steam Deck OLED will replace a couple models of the Steam Deck LCD, with remaining (old) inventory seeing a price reduction. The official Steam Deck OLED release date is November 16, 10AM Pacific, with reviews hitting the internet between now and then. Our review sample is arriving at time of publishing this news video. We will be benchmarking the thermals, battery life, acoustics, and charge time for the Steam Deck OLED in short order, so check back for that.

Testing has commenced as well! Lots to do in the next 24 hours, but it'll be fun!

It is honestly so refreshing to have a company allow the hardware engineers to talk directly to media outlets instead of some marketing team. They are so helpful knowing exactly what they're talking about, down to all the details like heatsink fin height and fan thickness.
Even greater that they allow for reviews to go live way before the full release of it (though to be fair there shouldn't be a massive performance uplift).

Wow. A company that ACTUALLY differentiates between a refresh and a generational change?!?! And it doesn’t even have an X in the name

The 1TB model is listed with an "Exclusive startup movie". What a premium feature. I hope Steve covers this on GN's review.

I think the stealth big news here is the possibility that Valve is going to make HDR on Linux mainstream. Fingers crossed.

Overall sounds like Valve is moving in the right direction with the deck. Looking forward to the full review from GN.

Big props to Steam for making the new version of the Steam Deck user repairable friendly. We need more of this!

Adding threaded metal inserts into the plastic injection molding is really expensive. I’m super happy that Valve decided to make that change, though!

I'm really excited about the Linux HDR support that Valve has been working on. It would be awesome to be able to play games in HDR on my desktop. Thanks Valve for making gaming on Linux more possible than ever!

What I like about Valve is they are listening to the community. I believe the top 2 requested things was an OLED screen and better battery. The fact they've improved the cooling solution and thermals/efficiency with a node shrink while reducing weight slighty is impressive.

I'm glad they've stuck with the same aspect ratio and resolution. I'm not convinced the benefits of full HD in such a small format is worth the performance loss driving more pixels.

Wow looks like a company that actually wants to do a nice upgrade and listen to its customers. Looks super promising and fixes most of what would prevent me from buying the first one

A quick note about the download speeds: Steam supports P2P downloads from machines on your LAN so download speeds aren't necessarily restricted by your ISP!

An OLED screen was the only thing missing from the Deck keeping me from buying one. I’ll be lining up to throw money at Gaben for that gorgeous translucent model now, GGs Valve.

you are the only channel to answer the question about putting a gen 2 Oled on a gen 1 deck. THANK YOU

I love how one incremental node shrink warrants a whole renovation of the console 1.5 year later. I can feel the enthusiastic DIY spirit of the engineering team behind it.

I overclocked my RAM on the deck from 5500 to 6400 and it made a massive change in some titles, a noticeable change.
much more than any CPU/GPU clock increase.
So nice to see the refresh get a speed increase for non overclockers.

The original model was already an amazing value proposition, replacing it with something that is a clear upgrade in every meaningful way is only a win. Shoutout to them increasing the storage- I only finally got to upgrade from my 64GB model where it was painful dealing with the Proton shader caches, so finally having something bigger for the base model is huge.

I'm hoping Valve would go global on this launch. I miss having warranty and it's just unfortunate that I just live in the wrong country. (Philippines)

90hz OLED, that's amazing. I can now stream my PC to my Steam Deck and get 4k/90fps OLED HDR on a handheld!

Wow the limited edition looks really nice with Valve colors and a throwback to old translucent hardware.
