At the recent ADAS 2024 exhibition, Israel Shipyards showcased the Sa’ar S-80 Multirole Corvette, a highly versatile platform designed to meet the evolving needs of naval forces. Local defense analysts reported that the vessel presents a compelling solution for the Philippine Navy’s growing requirements, particularly in the context of regional maritime challenges.
This is the information we learned from the discussions with an Israel Shipyard representative in the concluded ADAS 2024, in which Bons Cue Ph had the opportunity to visit their display area.
They did disclose that they are offering a new type of vessel for the second OPV acquisition which is the Saar Class S-80 which is classified as a Multi-Role corvette but can also be configured as an Offshore Patrol Vessel. According to them, same as the Horizon 2 acquisition, the Philippine Navy will have an additional procurement of six OPVs which they hope the Philippine Navy will consider.

The Saar S-80 Class surface combat vessel from Israel, an 80m long combat vessel might possibly the solution for the need of the Philippines for a more number of battle ready surface naval combat platform, it has a typical design which are less expensive in terms of budget spending, which could be very ideal, upon the approval of the current administration. And not to mention that perhaps this would be our chance to built our own naval arsenals, by diplomatic means of transfer of technology in our own backyard, because the said design was not too big, nor too small, indeed it is neither a corvette nor an OPV, but it was settled in between, so there for it could be develop as a fully armed Corvette, or a lightly armed OPV, or an MMRV vessel for the Coast Guard

WISE decision yan kung SAAR S80 ang kukunin pero sana wag nila tipidin sa sandata para talagang credible.

SAAR is good for the Philippines. But if we only buy 5 units of this, it is better to have an additional number of 9 batteries of BRAHMOS missiles, SPIDER AIR DEFENSE MISSILES system, and combat/attack drones.

But for now we'll see if the son of a brilliant father who gives the credit to the Philippines as the Tiger of Asia can bring back the glory of his father and the country he loves.

Israel made weapons are quality and has firepower. Better armed than the OPV from HHI.

Not a good choice. It is too small and unable to accommodate future improvements. It can only be a good buy if it comes complete with surface to air missiles, anti-ship missiles, and torpedo for anti-submarine. If doesn't come with that package it is better to improve the opv we acquired from HHI South Korea.
