For anyone looking to actually make sense of Capcom's bizarre MP setup for MHwilds:

Squads = Guilds in most other games. You can create them and invite people to them which then gives you a designated squad lobby you can use.
Lobby = an online multiplayer session. By default the game throws you into public lobbies but you can create/join private lobbies or squad lobbies. Once in the same lobby you can see eachother in camps and post/join eachother's quests.
Link Party = Like joining a party in most other games, the benefit of this is that you can join other party member's quests without having to be in their lobby. However you won't see eachother in camps or out in the environment.
Environment Link = Invites other players to your freeroam/expedition. This is probably the one you'll use the least, since it does not link you together for quests.

Easiest way to play with friends is either Squad or Private lobby, which falls in line with most previous monster hunter games. Link Party doesn't really fully pair you up, and environment link is borderline useless.

This was liiiterally me and my friends the other day. It took us like an hour and a half to finally be able to start playing. All of this was legit, down to the effing check list at the end followed by environment link. Chefs kiss, relived the PTSD, would PTSD again
