I wanted to conduct a test to see how a solid ring and a cut ring would affect VDI numbers. and If more metal means Higher VDI numbers and tones with the Nokta Makro Simplex. The results suprised me.

Filmed on Canon G7X Mark II
GoPro Hero 7 black
Detectors used:

Nokta Makro Simplex
Minelab Equinox 600
Minelab X-terra 705
Quest Q40
Minelab Vanquish 540
Garrett Ace Apex

It makes sense, this is why we wind coils on transformers, and how those sensors in the road at lights work. Changing magnetic flux causes a current in a complete circuit, and that in turn creates a magnetic field that your coil can detect. In the case of the links of chain, I think the individual links may produce opposing magnetic fields that cancel one another. So it returns less of a signature. Thanks! Fascinating experiments! Hat tip to James Clerk Maxwell (1831–1879)!

Man you gone from the Ghost Rider to the Saw. 😁
Loving it, this is good stuff for the new comer's to the hobby. Keep it up and keep it real. That exactly how it should work. Did these test decades ago.

Wow that's interesting I didn't realize that just a simple break would make that much difference

Wow! I never thought of that. Makes me wonder what I’ve missed! Cool video.

Great test, just goes to show why it is so hard to find a gold chain more than a inch down

The electrical conductivity of a metal decreases with increase in temperature because the thermal energy increases the collision of electrons and disturbs the free flow

I wish you’d start making some more videos of you either metal detecting or do you want to see about other metal detectors the ends in the outs in the bags in the goods I love all your videos I watch every one of them I just hit wish he had a few more of them out I watch one and then I might not see you for a couple days and then you’re back on here so if you get a chance bro make some more because we love you Joe and we love what you do and we love watching your videos thank you

So you need to snip the object to be a correct test

YES Silver tow rings up lower in the scale then a solid round silver ring..

Might have something to do with the fact that you heated the metal up . Try snipping them next time

I think what's happening is the reason you're getting a good signal on the Solid round link because this the detector is getting tricked due to the shape and it's getting different signals from the pieces because it's an iron-based the metal the metal detectors doing its job is discriminating the chunks of chain-link now if you had a solid gold ring or solid silver ring obviously you would get a great tone if you had chunks of silver chunks of gold from a ring the metal detector would pick it up perfectly fine because of the type of metal is gold and silver the metal detector will not discriminate gold or silver but it will discriminate trunks of chain-link mostly iron-based metal

It’s telling me it’s busted and it’s not worth it so much money so leave it in the ground if it wasn’t busted to give you a higher signal that’s letting you know it’s a better a better target and it’s worth more money

Somebody’s always interrupting your Joey tell them people to be quiet when you’re when you’re doing your podcast show quit interrupting you

It's all about Eddy currents - simple electrophysics. In the ground, all those 4 pieces of one iron ring you busted will give you a ton of false high tone signals because of Halo effects around them. Just keep in mind that NO air test will give you a real picture of what is going on in the ground! Stay away from air testing! Air tests have different purposes. By the way, a busted silver ring will never give you an iron-buzz signal. In the final part of your experiment, you made a HUGE mistake by placing the busted ring so close to a bunch of cut iron rings lying below to the left. Please redo this part of your test so that unknowledgeable folks wouldn't get confused or panic.
