This has been discussed before on the forums, all machines will do it. It has to do with how the “skin effect” works, and how the machines are calibrated. My CTX and Explorer both do it with stacked silver halves, and my Equinox also did it when I had it.

Very interesting. Over load is all I can think of, I'll have to try it with mine. Thanks for the video. Garnet... I'll let you know the results.

I have the Simplex and my machine does the same, my theory is possibly two reasons, one being the machine gets overloaded much like it does on surface finds. The second is that when the coins are stacked in excess, they absorb the electromagnetic waves not allowing the signal to bounce back to the pickup coil. Possibly a combination of both.
After an experiment with my Fisher F-44 I got simulator results. It overloaded or didn’t respond.

do you think the can-like shape of the stack? if the shape is the issue what about other objects shaped like a can? like a cut off pipe or round block? and what about silver or gold bars....hmm

It cuts out because it thinks it's iron all VLFs will do that

I found a full roll of dimes (clad) in about 5 stacks all stick together. Read them good. I'm going to have to try it out of ground like you did. Get back to you.

Hi mate, I'm from the uk so i did'nt have any silver dollars to try so i tried it with silver half crowns and had a steady reading with a single coin, and a stack of 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6!. I don't think the extra 2.5% of silver would make the difference, so if i were you i'd contact your makro dealer and see what they say. Great vids by the way. Stay safe.

i have videos on target separation and the Nokta cuts out coins when close to large iron.

That is interesting. I know the Kruzer has the same id numbers as the Simplex so I will try it out on mine too to see. Perhaps worth trying this with other detectors

I remember reading something about this on a metal detecting forum. They hinted at this but didn’t explain it.

I don’t have any half dollars rate now but I tried 8 quarters staked it did cut out a little bit I think it’s the park 2 mode and how it processes signals

Try just waving it over each side of the ring separately and the center bar separately. I did it with a stack of corners and mine acted the same when I got within 2 or 3 inches of the coils. But I found that if I wave it over either side or the center only it will act as expected. Or at least as I would expect. Also if they quarters got out of alignment just a little bit, it acted better. But to answer your question, yours is not the only one doing it. I almost lean toward overload but since it works if you do the sides and center separately, I dunno if that’s the case.

I tried six quarters on my simplex and it did it on mine too and I also tried it on my Garrett at pro and it did it on it also

This reminds me of when I figured out my detector can't find gold on a recovery that I did in all metal mode.. it is a wierd feeling..like being lied to or cheated on type thing..hehe

I just tried this test with my sp24 coil and a stack of 8 clad quarters and my machine did not do what yours is doing. It sounded the same with one quarter as it did with the stack of 8 quarters. All of my silver coins are stored in paper coin flips with staples in them so I didn't try it with silver coins . I tried it in park 1 and 2 mode and did not have this problem. I pre-orderd my simplex and received it in November 2019 so it's one of the first batches of Simplex released. I'm currently using the 2.78 firmware. I also tried this test with my Teknetics T2se and it didn't clip out like the Simplex but the stack of quarters did give me an iron grunt along with a high tone which is weird. I think it's just overloading your machine but it's strange that my Simplex doesn't do it but yours does. You would think since we're using the same firmware we should have same results. Try the 2.77 and see what it does...

The only thing I can think is it’s processing it as some type of broken up foil that’s the similar signal I get on places with bits of can slaw

I've noticed a similar issue when i get a good signal in the ground then when it's out on the surface it can hardly find it. Had this with other detectors also.

Just tried it with clad quarters and new dollars and mine responds fine. I'm running version 2.78
