How To: PENTAMELD! FFXIV Materia Overmelding Guide - Patch 6.4

Hello everyone! In this Final Fantasy 14 guide I teach you about the concept of overmelding. Specifically, I go over the benefits and cons of Pentamelding your gear for the new raid release. I show you how to unlock the quest to begin, how to request melds from friends, budget options, and what the percentages are for success! Lastly, you'll get to see the difference between no melds and fully pentamelded gear!

>spend a lot of gil to buy a shitload of the materia you need
>explode them all in the attempt
>try not to cry
>cry a lot
>return to the market board to do it all over again

Each piece of gear has caps that you can't go past for the different stats. For example: You may only have room for +4 gathering/craftsmanship/ direct hit. You can't put in anything over +4. That's why it's good to plan out how much of a stat toral over all your gear you need and see where you can fit it in.

This is a great video, but I do have one question. I got a second (1st overmeld) done on the Everseeker’s Hatchet I bought (high quality) And now it won’t let me attempt any more …. Do I have to craft the item myself to be able to over meld more than one slot? 😢

2 questions:
1, why does it sometimes say I have 0% chnace of meld with X level materia, but IX will work.
2, if the gear can't take all of the stats, i.e., I have 14 room from crit, but vii materia will give + 15. It melded, but it shows up red when I inspect the Armor. Did it work, or is there something wrong with using materia that gives more points than the gear can take.

Questions, if someone doesn't mind: Does your crafter need a certain amount of rating to over meld properly? How does one know how much stats you can add in the over meld?

Even though I'm in Stormblood, I've been in a bunch of the content excluding some extreme triald and savage Alexander raids, and I never thought of doing any melding. Should I step into doing this, or only for endgame stuff?
