A45 AMG, Audi RS3, Golf R, and Focus RS. These are all AWD hot hatches with heavily turboed 2 or 2, 3 L engines.

BMW M2, has less hp than almost all of these, is only RWD, with an uncorrupted steering, with a silky smooth inline 6 cyl engine. It's simply above these hot hatches as a enjoyable drivers car.
These hot hatches compete with each other with their straight line acceleration thanks to their AWD. The ONLY advantage they have over M2.

Sorry Archie but you are very wrong about the manual not making a difference. The BMW auto boxes are some of the best in the world at the moment and with the manual gearbox you also don't get launch control. With launch control and faster shifts that would have been far more competitive
