I’ll be honest I’ve used the latest version (chat gpt-4); I was impressed. I had made a few web dev based requests such as “generate a complex react-bootstrap page” or “complex html css & js page” and when it did the results were prolific because of how instantaneous they were. However, chat gpt has its limits and it just extracts from an existing repository of data (however huge) but it can’t exactly…synthesize new data. SWE’s are often used to create new software so we still have tenability in the workforce. That dynamic can change a quarter of a century from now; be prepared.

Us programmers are fretting a lot but don't forget its freaking coming for everybody.... receptionists, teachers, accountants, data scientists, logistic managers, anybody in customer service etc etc etc sure it can write code but that's just a small part and most jobs require only a brain and a mouth (plus emails)... and everyones going "Im going to lay bricks instead"... nope! The robots will.
