i don’t mind about spines creasing on paperbacks and the cover getting worn, it just shows how much the book has been loved and read :) also i prefer paperback just because they are easier to hold and put in different positions whereas hard covers you have to hold it in the same postition. i also prefer paperbacks because i’m a cheapskate and hard covers are expensive

haha, I too prefer the hardcover versions for your same reasons-- they tend the last longer, and they have a cool under (secret) cover. Plus, yes, all series must match! It bothers me so much when I end up mixing and matching them unwillingly D:

But weirdly, I get a sense of fondness and joy when I see an old, wrinkled, worn book. It's like, you can visible see how much the reader loved it, opening it constantly, carrying it around everywhere. It's sweet in a strange way.

For ex. My brother accidentally maimed his copy of Ender's Game because he used to carry it around everywhere in his cluttered backpack. It's one of his favorite books, and it's like it shows it. I also accidentally put a paperback Ringworld in my bag next to an opened highlighter and it ended up tainting some of the pages. But it looks kinda cute? I too used to carry it around everywhere :P so a much loved book gained some markings.

I just wanted to buy a book from a website and honestly, I didn't know the difference, so thanks! <3

I absolutely love the 🐨 on the shelf. I love Koalas. You’re my hero with mr Koala sitting there. 😂

I get used hardcovers off amazon prime (can’t find a thrift store or used books store near me at all... online sketches me out) and they’re always 1-5$ cheaper than the paperback versions of the book, and they look brand new! Although I don’t care if it’s hardcover or paperback, as long as it’s not mass market paperback.

I agree with you so much! I collect hardcover editions too, and I hate when the spines crack. I treat paperback books very carefully, though.

You are so adorable! I agree with the hardcover sentiments! I adore how hardcover books look but I must admit that reading a paperback is easier (but only if you don't care about cracking the spine) haha great video

Those aren't worn pages. It's called deckled edges.

The Four novella looks so thick. I read it on my Nook or my Kindle, forget which, and it was really short. I never thought about which form of book I prefer, but I think I actually like the softcover better. I'm not really sure why, but I think it has something to do with how it feels in my hands. :)

I'm new to books and just bought my first ones as Hardcover and when you remove the design covering of the hard cover, it wasn't that appealing compared to paperbacks with integrated book cover design. Is this normal?

I do agree, hardcovers are beautiful and more durable, they look so nice on the shelf...however, my downfall to them is they are heavy and awkward to hold. I don't fold my pages back far enough to break the spine in paperback and I find them easier to lay in bed with or take out somewhere. That being said, I don't like pocket paperbacks and I don't know why.

I got a question, what if I buy a paperback and laminate it around the cover, will it make the cover more durable?

I always but hardback with the notion of never buying that book again. Always cover the dust jacket and cherish them forever.

In the early 1900's to 1960's it was Cloth and Paperback. So well ummm.... Let's be glad we have hardcover now xD

I love hardback books. I’m sad I have Essence in hardback but I am Mercy in paperback. Lol. I haven’t read Harry Potter yet, just watched the movies. Dust covers are the bomb.

Omg you are so cute! Also, I just started getting into reading a few weeks ago and I must say....I am a huge fan of Hardback already 😍 The designs on the cover are so beautiful most of the time.

I'm currently reading Outlander, and I have the paperback edition. And the thing that really bothered me was how the end of the cover started majorly creasing. That was when I had put it in my schoolbag. The number one thing that bothers me about paperbacks, is how the covers have a tendency to crease. And also how the spine will fall apart from being worn.
