A paperback with a spine break is a sign of a book that has been well read.

That’s an interesting take. The mass paperback I’ve bought has been cramped text that smudges the letters if you thumb them. A good paperback is definitively the best for commute though.
Hardbacks as you say, are weapons and shouldnt be carried in public

I prefer paperbacks all day. The convenience of not having to worry about getting it damaged is great. It's also great for reading comfort. I would rather read a nice and lightweight paperback than a giant heavy hardcover. Great video!

E-books are the winner.
Jokes aside, currently I read on my Kindle and if I really like the book, I buy the Hardcover, since is for collection/preservation.

I love mass market paperback for two reasons
1) it’s cheaper
2) it’s smaller (I love the smaller covers)
The only downside is most custom covers are hardback.

To read: [older] mass market pb for portability and old mass markets look great. [Newer releases] mid size paper back if it's a shorter books and full sized trade paper back if it's a long story. Both for comfort of reading.... all paperbacks look good with some wear on them.
To store and shelve: Hardback just to look good on a shelf. When I was in high school, I read nothing but hardcover. When I joined the Navy, lugging around a HC was not an option. I always had a paperback in the back pocket of my coveralls for 3 deployments on my ship or the cargo pocket of my ACUs when I went to Afghanistan. I still read a HC from time to time, but I love PB.

I love hardbacks for their solidity but I will strongly agree on the persistence of paperbacks looking good even after years of wear.

I guess I do really like both as long as the cover is pretty....but not too pretty on the hardback because then you're just afraid to touch it sometimes. 😂

mass market paperback (pocketbooks) or death. Will always be the superior format to me.

well well well let me get started here. I hate mass market paperbacks but ONLY because they look dumb on my bookshelf and it annoys me. However that might be because I only have like three of them so they just look out of place. My overall FAV is floppy paperback - it's the easiest and most comfortable to hold and also more affordable and it's also what most romance books come in. BUT THEN for some huge fantasy books, I like hardcover because since it's so big it's more comfortable to hold compared to paperback. Also if its a fantasy series then i need it in hardcover most of the time IDK it just makes sense to me. ALSO sometimes I just like whatever version matches my current books. So like most of my romances are paperback I need the rest to be paperback. Most of my thrillers are hardcover I need rest to be hardcover GET IT GOT IT GOOD

Handy little paperbacks, can't beat 'em. Started my collection in 1964, still cherish/reread them after 60 years; covers were better then too. I did get a floppy today, McCammon's Swan Song.

BOTH! I have about 450 sci-fi vintage mass paperbacks and if I read one that I love, I'll track down the original hardcover for collecting. For some reason I don't like the large floppies though.

I don’t tend to read while walking. So convenience really doesn’t make sense for me

I am a paperback girl, a spine breaker ( wait... that sounds bad...ah you know what I mean), all the way. To be honest the only "mass paperbacks" I see are quite old. I'm not sure if they really do them in the UK anymore. However in europe they do "pocket books" which i guess is the same size as a mass paper back. I think it depends on word count but I HATE paperbacks that are the same size as hardcovers which are all they sell at airports for some reason. They never fit on my shelf, or ruin my aesthetic and they are sooo heavy. Like have you ever had one of those, or a hardback fall on you face while you are lying in bed... ouch!!
