Korean brand lands a mid-size electric SUV that’s cheaper than a Tesla Model Y and roomier than a Kia Sportage

Kia is readying the third member of its rapidly growing new-generation electric vehicle family: the 2024 Kia EV5.

Following in the wheel tracks of the pioneering Kia EV6 and the larger EV9 seven-seat SUV, the new EV5 is a mid-size electric SUV that will compete with the likes of the top-selling Tesla Model Y.

Chief to the EV5’s expected appeal in Australia will be an attractive entry price close to $60,000 and a long real-world range.

Sam Charlwood ran his eye over a pre-production version of the EV5 currently in Australia, ahead of its local release in coming months.

Love the negative comments. Looks like a great car. The critics have no money, no intention to buy a new car and no idea about anything really.

You hit the nail on the head at the end if Kia gets the pricing right, GT variant $70k drive away would be the right price. Otherwise, no thanks.

Love the design and I'm happy that Kia is not bringing it with a heavy price tag, but the interior has too much cheap plastic. 60k is still not cheap as such. I know Tesla isn't the benchmark on interior as well, but Kia needs to change that it makes it look very cheap and more like a Chinese car

So just precisely what is the capacity of the boot space, - with the rear seats folded flat? Just showing it in the video tells us absolutely nothing. 🙄😖

isn't Kia, South Korean, not Chinese?

Why would you buy an expensive Kia chinese car instead of a cheaper chinese chinese car?
Makes no sense to me

Hey Tesla owners, get ready for another price reduction from Elon.

$60000 Chinese made rip off again for Aussie market. $40000 still would be a rip off

NOPE, sorry there’s absolutely no chance that I would buy a EV .
Too expensive to buy, Too expensive to insure, Charging infrastructure outside of town is non existent, Fire risk at home and a catastrophic resale value .
It, s a huge PASS from me .
