I'd like to add Omori to the pile. I was really taken aback by the game's story telling and how it relies on horror elements to get you into the main character's headspace. And when you're not in the real world, it's a really fun RPG too with great secrets and a great battle system.

Number one caught me off guard, but I agree, I hope including a 2D mode in future games can become a trend.
Overall, I love the fact that, in modern games, 2D or 3D aren't considered superior or inferior, just a stylistic choice to serve the game the creators want to make. After playing Eiyuden Chronicle Rising recently, I also hope we can get more games with 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds, that was one of my favorite design motifs of the PS1 era and I would love to see it make a comeback

Dragon Quest XI is a great game. I played through it and did basically everything there was to do (I think), but I haven't played the 2D mode. Maybe another playthrough is warranted.

Took me over 120hrs to finish dq11 in 3d mode (tried to perfect it). You saying I couldve finished it within 50 hours in the definitive version in 2d mode?! Damn... Still had a blast with the game though. Hoping more DQ mainline games will be released on steam or ps4.
