D. Dissociative amnesia!

This is a type of amnesia that involves the inability to remember important personal information, usually after a super traumatic or stressful event, such as natural disasters, accidents, or medical procedures.

It is a type of dissociative disorder, which refers to a disruption or dissociation in a person's normal functioning, awareness, or sense of identity. Onset is normally sudden and preceded by overwhelming or intolerable events. The memory loss in dissociative amnesia is typically selective and may be limited to specific events or periods of time. The person may be unable to recall important personal information, such as their home address, phone number, or details about their past.

Dissociative amnesia can also be associated with a history of trauma or abuse. In some cases, the memory loss may be temporary and resolve on its own, while in others, it may persist for a longer period of time and require treatment.

** Interesting Fact: If the amnesia is associated with traveling or wandering (AS IN THIS CASE!), it’s called a “dissociative fugue”. Before you can diagnose this, you must rule out the effects of drugs and alcohol as well as medications or neurological disorders. The brain is so interesting…

This truly saddens me. When trauma inflicts so much pain that the mind can't handle it anymore. We are all susceptible to it. Even if you don't think so. I hope you all are doing well out there❤

Dr. Jake, just in case if no one had told you before, you're one of the most kind people I've seen. I'm planning to be a psychiatrist and be like you !!

This really frightens me with my son as he been suffering from episodes of manic depression with schizo affects since his teens. He's so close to his 83yr old grandpa. When he has his breaks he is a 3yr old. I don't know if he would come back if anything happened to my Dad. Its very sad. I hope this young man is alright now.

D. I think he's in a fugue state, which can take place after a traumatic event. There have been cases of people found across the US months after traumatic events, unable to remember their former identities

Grief is a sneaky thing. I've lost almost my whole family to death, and especially watching both my parents die in front of me 😢. I can relate with this. I've never forgotten who I was, but I can really relate to dissociation. It's really hard. And you never get over it, but you learn to live a new normal. But it's literally a nightmare ❤

I love your videos. I'm right most of the time, which shocked me because I only have EMT and wilderness forst responder training. But I also learn a lot in a brief amount of time. But living abroad, I've had to educate myself about health quite a bit, and I was a teacher in a school system that didn't have any kind of disability accomodation or support, so I had to learn a lot abou mental health and developmental disorders to support my students.

I think D- disassociate amnesia, the death of a loved one can cause a person to lose control of their decisions, the body goes into fight or flight and him leaving sounds as though his body chose flight, but during, he disassociated most likely due to stress
