I love how Noodle showcased it in a video saying that interpolation sucks and then it got interpolated

You can clearly see which one is superior.
Hint: it's not the ai

I find it funny how everyone is talking about interpolation like it was made for 2d.

The interpolated version sucks in comparison

The hand drawn frames feel so much more alive

There's a certain crispness from the hand animated version that you can't get from just being a stupid doofus and throwing it through an A.I.
Massive kudos to Mayyde for going through the pain of animating this.

i love how these people always try to argue "smoothness" as why interpolation to 60fps is better

like that doesn't rob the animation of its impact. video games being at 60 or 120 fps look good because it's *designed to be such.*

I love how in the interpolated one, when he blinks the ai makes an in-between of both the eye open and the eye lids. As well as how it gets confused between the eyelids and the eye brows.

just shows how important human input is in animation

The AI even puts some kind of smear in the top-right corner.

It surprisingly holds up pretty well until like 4 seconds in where he leans forward, then it ends up predictably. I think there's a couple big reasons it does better than usual here.

1: There just aren't very many complex movements going on until the screaming part, so it's relatively easy for the AI to detect what parts are what.

2: since the footage was reduced to 12 FPS before going through the AI, it didn't have the usual issue with 24fps animation frames that are animated on 2's, so instead of constantly going back and forth between 12 and 48, it's just a continuous 48, which obviously doesn't make it perfect especially since you're also removing frames in the process, but it definitely makes it much smoother than putting it in a regular ass animation without any particular preparation

I appreciate how when he screams, it looks like the AI panics, as if he spooked it.

Man, the interpolation looked pretty clean… right up until the freakout at the end.

Interpolation has it's place, and it certainly isn't for spastic movement

Thank you noodle for this knowledge, now I can say in confidence out loud that I think they suck

Huh.... well the A.I do be doing a crappy job, no doubt, looks kinda bad

I feel like the only time interpolation would be useful is if you used it in a 48fps video to make a specific character or item appear uncanny.
