How to Farm Mealworms 2022 [ Saving Hundreds Per Year While Keeping Reptiles, Chickens and More]

In this video I show you how to save money while keeping reptiles! There are lots of money saving hacks for animal care, but feeder farming is one of my top suggestions. This video might just be the easiest way to farm mealworms! Hi, I’m Tatiana and in today’s video I show you exactly how to start a mealworm colony. Using a 3-tier sterilite container, you can easily breed your own feeder insects with this DIY mealworm farm. Just fill each drawer ½ way with oats or bran and let your mealworms thrive. Feed them fresh fruits and veggies a few times a week, and don’t forget to separate the beetles after they pupate.

I bought my meal worms from Petsmart. They ALL pupated and grew into darkling beetles. It can be done, but it's good to know it might not. I LOVE your drawer set up!

Although I have seen some things on this video that most other more "professional" farm videos didn't do, I did learn two things. Pet stores sometimes supress the 3-cycles of the worm's life. And adding genetic diversity. The second part really makes sense. Its that way with any breeding animals. I guess the large farms that sell them don't care because they are dealing with such massive amounts of breeding beetles they will still get the eggs even if a lot don't breed.
