Having food in the cup does not prevent them from pupating. The only common factor with pupation in superworms is isolation. The channel leopard gecko debunked this a few years back. Her video tries it with substrate, with food, with no food, and with substrate and food. All pupated. Another misconception is them requiring a dark space. I keep mine on a bookshelf in my room, which isn't dark, and they still pupate within the expected time frame. When the pupa hatch, they are actually white in color, and within a week, they turn black, not a few weeks. Sexual maturity also takes place within a time span of about 2 weeks. I did this experiment on my channel where I isolated 1 female and 1 male and observed them daily. Breeding did not take place until 2 weeks after they hatched.

Good video, just a few misconceptions in it and mistakes I made in my first breeding video for them as well. Give it a try and see for yourself. I don't suggest adding food to the cups, as it isn't needed. However, as I said, it does not prevent them from pupating. Cheers.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me out. So what size wholes does the screen need to be for the eggs to drop through? And what about the bedding? Wont that fall through as well? Hi there, can I leave the top drawer withought substrate so all eggs can fall thru the mesh. If I put substrate won’t eggs stay on top of substrate and not fall thru?

I only have one gecko, but it's been near impossible to buy worms in my area lately. I just found some after months of them being out of stock. The store's supplier had to completely restart all their colonies from scratch. So, while I don't need a ton of worms, itd be nice to have some farming as a safety net.
