The "German" surname could be because of the Ashkenazi Jew part

I saw Ashkenazic Jewish in there, which could be the origin of the Germanic last name.

So she is 1/4 Slavic (Eastern European) and has a great great grandparent that was an Ashkenazi Jew most likely on this Slavic side since they migrated to Germany, Austria, and throughout Eastern Europe around 1000 years ago.

Hello from England Pearl! I guessed you might have a high % of British and Irish heritage given you’re from the US and look quite a similar to myself and many of my blonde British female friends. Welcome to the family x

A recent *female* ancestor of mine was South Asian, from North India. The test reflected that accurately, but after a few ‘DNA updates’ South Asia was then ruled out completely as a region. Apparently these regular updates get ‘more and more accurate’, but my case at least is proof that there’a still some kinks.

Parents can have ethnicities in their DNA tests that aren’t passed down to children. You get 50% of DNA from each parent, but it’s not an equal portion of each ethnicity, it’s random. A father could be 50% Irish, 50% German, and the kid could get 50% Irish from him and 0% of the German.

Nothing is funnier than Americans finding out they're English. There is a reason the USA speaks the language...

When you receive a DNA test result, the percentages shown indicate which current populations have the most genetic similarity to your DNA. For example, if 70% of your DNA matches people in Britain and Ireland, it suggests that your genetics are most similar to people currently living there, but it doesn't necessarily mean your ancestors came directly from that region. Populations migrate, and people with ancestry from other regions may share DNA with those in Britain due to historical migrations, intermarriage, or genetic mixing.

Moreover, DNA ancestry tests group people into regions based on genetic markers that are common to those areas today. These regions can overlap with nearby populations, making it possible for someone with ancestry from, say, the Netherlands or Germany to show up as part of the British genetic population. This is due to the close genetic relationships between people in Europe, particularly in regions that have had centuries of migration and interaction.

Regarding your surname - maybe it was changed from one language to something more in line with a new country. i had a boss whose surname was Finn but it was actually traced back to Finklestein.

I think this is fairly common. As a Canadian visiting Korea, many times a local person would say " look, a Russian!"

I love how Peter Capaldi (the Twelfth Doctor; Malcolm Tucker) is Scottish and his ancestry is Scottish and Irish, but he has this very Italian surname thanks to one Italian grandfather.

I've been doing genealogy for over 20 years and these are without a doubt the top responses: "No f**king way!" and "Oh my gosh!" So, well done Mr & Mrs Oriental Pearl. Welcome aboard the Family Tree Crazy Train - there are ALWAYS surprises.

Oh my gosh yes!!! What a surprise when I saw this! I’d always secretly wanted you to get a DNA test as I thought you looked Russian too. I’ve had 2 DNA tests done, one with MyHeritage and the other AncestryDNA. Was interesting but glad you now know 😃
