Man must be 90+ years old and still sharp as a tack. We should all be so lucky!

I’d pay money just to sit and listen to this man’s life stories.

I think something like 90% of the flamethrower operators on iwo Jima were casualties

This is the most practical explanation of flame throwers I’ve ever heard.

My dad was 3rd Marine Division also on Iwo Jima, and a flamethrower. Took a hill clearing out pillboxes. Also took shrapnel in the face. The things he had to do and see scarred him much more throughout his and our lives. Very proud and grateful for the men and women who serve our country but I wish wars were not necessary.

This man’s story is incredible, I watched the longer one. Well worth it, he’s very sharp for his age too.

I promise watch his interview on Shawn Ryan podcast. One of the most amazing WW2 interviews I've ever seen. 100%

I spent a year on Iwo Jima in the Coast Guard. We had a Long Range Aid to Navigation station there. In 1972 the place still looked like the war had just ended the previous month. There is an old mine shaft in the middle.of the island. We called it the Million Dollar Hole. After the island was secured in 1945 they dumped all the surplus ammo and unserviceable weapons in there. It was full to the brim and we still found unexploded ordinance. There are pill boxes all around the island, some with machine guns in them. We also found bones of Japanese soldiers who had been killed in the tunnels and caves. The place was a real meat grinder.
