Retroactive Unemployment Benefits Back Pay

I was asked to cover this topic by Bxrdo in the comments of another video on PPP vs Unemployment. I am not a CPA or a Lawyer, this is just my experience dealing with the Department Of Labor In New York State. NY has different rules than other states, so make sure to check with your local whomever. I received all my retroactive back pay to date this week. If you have not received yours keep trying! Remember to file a claim every week for the last week on the unemployment website. And if you haven't specifically added on the PUA, in NY we had to do that separate. I know it's a mess but they've promised they will pay everyone for the back time they are due, which in my case, they did. I wish you luck.

Borsellino Carpentry is a construction company located in Upstate New York. I specialize in small residential remodeling jobs. This channel is dedicated to teaching other contractors, carpenters, small business owners, DIYers, weekend warriors and anyone else who just wants to learn a little bit about home improvement. The full name of the company is actually Borsellino Carpentry & Home Repair, LLC but that is just too much of a mouthful! I also do tool reviews, business tips and other contractor related videos on this channel. In the wintertime I even do snow plowing videos. I try to mix it up and show all the parts of the contracting job, not just the glorious finished product. Please leave me a comment and let me know if there's any specific topics or jobs you'd like me to cover. Thanks for watching! 👋😃

You got paid because you were persistent and most important, you followed up. That is the sign of a good manager.

Hi I’m also in New York and this gave me hope! I was thankfully able to get through over the phone and complete my initial claim and received my first week of benefits a week later. I was also able to certify my passed weeks over the phone as well. I’m now coming on my third week of certification and still haven’t received my back pay. I’m missing 7 weeks of benefits and will definitely try to message them. Keep doing these videos very helpful. EDIT 5/29 I got the docusign email this morning!!! Your video gave me so much hope and positivity so I just wanted to say thank you for posting your experience in the first place! That’s all I wanted to say :)

NY is definitely overwhelmed. There is a article in the NY Daily news that states NY simply doesn't have enough money to pay on all the claims. They're in the process of borrowing money from the federal government to do so. Anyone who's received what's fully owed to them should consider themselves lucky because that vast majority of NYers are either still in limbo or haven't.

You're on point on your video! This is my 1st time watching your video. My last day of work was also 3/13/2020 from my 1st job and 3/14/2020 from the 2nd job. I applied on 3/16/2020 for regular unemployment because they wasn't stating to file under the PUA. I couldn't even file my biweekly because they said that I wasn't on file, and that I had an existing claim. I reopened a claim. I called and the line was busy; I sent an email, and they wanted me to send proof of wages. I submitted in a email.

On 5/28/2020; I had gotten an email to file under PUA, which I applied from the current date to the week of March 8-13, which I worked. I submitted documents from 4 different jobs for 2019(paystubs, W2s; 1099s). I finally had received my 2 checks on 6/4/2020. Thank God! Alot of people, are still waiting for unemployment/PUA, which it's discouraging due to the pandemic, which they end up going to a job paying less than there regular job because it's torture waiting for unemployment!

To the people that are still waiting don't give up and be persistent! Make sure you have all your documentation from your job/jobs.

I'm in NY and filed March 23rd. Today is June 13th and have yet to receive any funds. So anyone who has received all their benefits up to date, consider yourself very very fortunate.

Whoa I'm watching this on November 22, I applied for unemployment last week, and asked about retro pay..., and I qualify for the pandemic unemployment, so says the lady that helped me out. She was really helpful. Well I thought I didn't qualify. My friend got her retro pay, and she got about 13k..., so my back pay goes back to April until November, that's 7month's. I hope I at least get something to live with....🤞

I'm in Texas and finally got through and a young lady thank God for her fixed my issue with the Tele service. Everytime I called it said that It's been over 3 weeks since you last filed for benefits and I needed to call them. Problem is everything is automated unless your filing for the first time then you speak with a person. So I was determined not taking any prisoners they got the right one today...lol I called talked to the lady and she hooked it up I filled for 14 weeks of back pay and I believe the emergency pandemic funds. So persistence and positivity it works also be nice to the lady.😅😊

Thank you, I too signed up March 22 started getting paid mid April with the PUI and all of a sudden June 1 nothing I called finally got through they told me to email the unemployment email address in Maryland. sent 100 called 200 times to get hung up on bc no one answers. So I contacted a state delegate and she is now helping. I made more with my job but unfortunately my cosmetic sales job will not be rehiring. I am single and need these benefits lve spent $3G online education so I can rebrand myself in hopes of a new job. TU for sharing.

I live in DE. I had the same issue. I was due back pay from March to mid May. An associate at the DE unemployment office had to manually enter my missed weeks of certification. I also had an technical issue entering my weekly certification. Anyway, I've been reaching out to them since the beginning of April and they sent me an email yesterday telling me my request was denied. They said, I wouldn't receive my 6 weeks of unemployment because I didn't call it in. I waited basically 7 months for them to simply deny me even though a associate manually entered my info and I had issues with certification because of technical appealing the decision but Im furious considering the amount of time and effort Ive put into resolving the matter.

Thanks for video; I've received payment the past 2 weeks and am in line for this weeks pay; but I am owed for 8 weeks in March and April and hoping to get the e-mail you got to get the ball rolling. Really need the money owed to catch up on bills. Your video gives hope and maybe it did help messaging them so I'll try that. It could be done in alphabetical order and maybe you received all your back pay because your last name starts with B. Who knows.

Thanks for the video and info 👍 if you have a moment I'd appreciate your input.

My PUA benefits started May 2021 when I lost my job. I want to backdate it to Dec 6th 2020 because I experienced reduced hours/pay due to the pandemic. If approved for backdating, my benefits could potentially stop in December of this year if the base period shifts, right?

I'm not even sure reduced pay/hours qualifies for backdating? Hard to find a specific answer to that on the website and getting through to them on the phone is difficult as you know.

I also don't know how to emphasize reduced pay in the backdating section of AskEDD, I want to avoid overpayments at all costs.

Similar situation in PA. Collecting unemployment now but no idea how to get back pay from March 15. No response to emails. I think that they'er overwhelmed.
