Environmental engineering, is truly a multidisciplinary field based on traditional civil engineering principles, bringing together chemistry, biology, geology, and emerging fields such as sustainability and systems thinking.

Examples of the types of projects environmental engineers are involved with include:
-Air pollution technology
-Analysis of the fate, transport, and health effects of emerging pollutants
-Design and operation of water and wastewater systems
-Recovery of energy and valuable products from wastes

The ASU program is unique in that it combines expertise across all areas of environmental engineering with a strong foundation in sustainability. This allows faculty and students at ASU to tackle large and complex problems and provide innovative solutions that make a real difference.
