-------------------------------------About Me-------------------------------------
I'm an Environmental Engineer currently working for the Air Force. I oversee their Hazardous Waste, Hazardous Materials, Integrated Solid Waste, and Qualified Recycling Programs. I have a Bachelors in Chemistry and a Masters in Environmental Engineering. My professional work experiences range from cancer R&D, teaching at a college level, and environmental compliance.
On this channel, I'll be sharing my story on what it's like being an Environmental Engineer, detailing the good and bad of the position. Some other relatable topics may include personal growth, job hunting, and minimalism all through the perspective of a millennial.

I'm still gonna graduate with an Environmental Engineering degree. Because, you need to be the change, you want to see in this world. We can change the world together! And we will! Love your videos Randy! Keep up the good work👍🏻

Upon watching this video, for a moment it was depressing, fantasy and reality are vastly different. However, I came to quickly realize that what we set ourselves out to do isn't revolved around a specific major or skill- there is no such thing as a miracle or world-saving major. It all depends on how you utilize your skills creatively and to truly make a difference, you must know the opposition better than it knows itself whether it be social like a corporation or something naturally occurring. That way you are able to hold the cards and you are able to truly create a difference.
I still believe that the objectives I will set out to do once I start my college journey as an Environmental engineer can be accomplished through will, hope and never giving up

Don't underestimate the power of Passion. The corporate world is merely a stepping stone. Learn the tools and leave. Be courageous, Be Novel, BELIEVE!

My dad is a civil engineer, so he made me very aware about what environmental engineeering is like in that regard - water management, brownfields, landfills and such.. approvals with cities

I’m pursuing environmental engineering for undergrad as a foundation for law school (environmental/patent law) or to become a professor (I’ve really enjoyed research and feel I can go for a PhD if a program that fits pops up)

Good video for younger students!!

Hi, neat videos and good details on the subject. I work as a environmental engineer (contaminated site remediation) and can feel what you say. IMO, a lot of 'changing world' is done by the ones without a college degree even. And no matter what engineering stream you choose to specialize in, engineering teaches the 'how to' and technicalities for logically understanding complex concepts.
An algorithm is an algorithm no matter the kind of engineer.

Many companies have departments wholly focused on research and development. But I think as a rule universities probably add most to technological development and are probably easier to get work - continuing after post grad as a fellow etc. Although as a recent Environmental Engineering Graduate, I briefly looked at post grad work on a project with a professor, the scholarship (if you qualify) is only $35000 per year whereas starting in industry is often $70000+, at least here in Australia. So the willingness to make direct contributions to green technology development working at a uni may come at a loss to the wallet. But I suppose the wage is survivable. Thanks for the content Randy!

Thank you for making this video. It's kind of sad about what you said, but I'm glad you shared with us your observations

New Subscriber here!😃Great insight from your perspective and your own personal knowledge and experience within this field! I'm 31 almost 32 yrs of age and looking to pursue a degree in environmental studies also. Thank you so much for making this video and giving us a more realistic point of view on how things actually are!😃👍

Hey, Randy. I’m so sorry… I suppose you had this big vision and then got disappointed. This society is SO SLOW in terms of change… I wish things were different! But you know - you could be the one creating your own project. This channel just proves that! You have an entrepreneurial spirit, and with that I’m sure that you can initiate some really cool things! My dream is to do projects on a small scale and show the community around me that it could be done in whole of society too. I might have to have a part time job at the side at first, but eventually I hope to be at the frontier if change and get different sectors to cooperate and get inspired! At the moment I want to buy some land and create an eco village with some cool features. I would also like to work as a consultant in the horse industry here in Sweden and speak to the organizations about an interesting green future in that field! With a creative entrepreneurial attitude I think we can find work that is fulfilling… and that people need to know how important we are for the future 💪🏻🍂

Basically, if you want to do fascinating cutting edge research, u need to get a Phd, become a professor and do research. If you work in industry, you are doing practical things. I actually did the first option and i found the "cutting edge research" to be boring because it has no practical application. 😂 And u are saying u are bored by the practical application stuff. This is hilarious. And i never thought thats what environmental engineering was ... EVER. i never imagined utopias

Hi Randy, thanks for sharing your honest opinion. I'm a Civil Engineer and I'm in two minds whether going for Environmental Engineering for my master's or pursuing my higher education in other fields such as Geotechnical Engineering or even Water Engineering! to be honest, I'm really into Green Buildings. I really wanted to try Environmental Engineering, however, after I saw your video I felt that it's not right to go for an Environmental ENG degree unless you are a big fan of research and academic work.

Hello, I'm a young teen going into the 9th grade.

Are there other jobs in environmental engineering that are more hands on? What I'm wanting for my future is a job that I can at least try and contribute to the environment and make a good living. I've heard there are many jobs in this field that do more negative to the environment then positive.

This is only one side of environmental engineering. You can also do stuff involving environmental remediation or water treatment plant design.

Hey Randy, I love your videos, thank you for positing and helping us out to have a better vision of our carriers..I had a request, if you could post a video about the best universities to study environmental engineering for undergraduate students (especially for international students) in the US, that be great as I'm finding it very difficult to find the good university which offers this course. Thank you so much
