I think peach losing her biker outfit means more than we initially thought...

After posting this I had the thought... is the 'movie DK' a COSTUME?? We could get a situation like Link in MK8DX... what do you think?

Peach also has her hair down! Very much giving me mk64 vibes

Costumes are a cool idea! It can let you customize your character and allow other Mario characters to join in since there will be more slots available!

Peach just looks awkward riding a bike with her dress on instead of her biker outfit

It wouldn't be bad idea, so we dont have "5 varaiations of mario" for racers, vs just different outfits ect for each character.

why isn’t anybody talking about the fact that nobody boosts after drifting?? everybody gets blue sparks, but nobody gets a mini turbo- i’m genuinely more curious about this than anything else 😭😭

24 Player races online are gonna be absolutely chaotic

Both Mario Tennis Aces and Mario Golf Super Rush gave the cast appropriate outfits for the sport they’re playing.
It make a lot of sense that they’d also give everyone at least one racing outfit for Mario Kart.

I hope if they add costumes, they’ll also overhaul the way it works in the character select. Having three characters in the roster that just send you into a submenu unannounced feels pretty unintuitive

I just hope that the biker suits for all the Princesses weren't removed entirely because they were seen as "too sexy". The alternate costume theory does sound plausible, but considering how obsessed Nintendo have been with keeping a clean, family friendly image for the Mario brand as of late... I wouldn't put it past them.

DK & Bowser looks so big and arkward riding those small karts, very cool detail! They really do look accurate to the Yocihi Kotabe artstyle.

If this game has retro tracks which I'm 99% sure it will, its going to be weird seeing Mario kart 8 courses classed as RETRO tracks now...

In MK8DX, Link, Inklings, and Villagers all had selectable versions as well. Link had the most drastic difference in costumes, with actual model differences instead of just recolors, as well as different kart symbols and different horn sounds. If they carry that over and have costumes for more, if not all, characters and combine stuff like Cat Mario and Metal Mario in to Mario's roster slot, the costumes could be very interesting with the changes they could make to the character they are for and also much nicer to navigate.

What if they had a pack system like in tour where you could unlock different karts and skins (NOT USING REAL MONEY but coins that you collect instead). It would give the game a lot of replayability because you could grind for a different version of your favorite character

Mario Kart 9’s top priority is to be as different from Mario Kart 8 as possible while not feeling different. It has to be different enough to differentiate itself from literally everybody who bought the first switch, while not alienating the casual players used to 8 Deluxe. So, I think the art style shift should do the trick, especially if they do more character outfits.

Could this be marketed as the biggest Mario kart to date? If the game has 24 racers, then not only does that mean that the tracks have to be bigger to accommodate the players, but that also means that the roster has to be pretty big to give you options. Double Dash did this too since it had you choose twice as many characters.

Or ... they're redoing the whole character art style, and they didn't want to showcase "alternative clothes" for peach before her "basic design" (could also be that they didn't put it in the game yet).

I hope these chibi/toy-like designs are costumes, they absolutely don't look bad but it's totally different from all the past MarioKarts, except maybe 64. It looks more like Mario vs DK or the Mario RPG remake than any 3D Mario. It will be a bit strange if this becomes the new Mario artstyle after like 25 years of these characters looking hardly any different than they did on the GameCube.

I mean… Smash Bros pulled off having 8 costumes for each character in a huge roster so… why not?
