This practice is so barbaric and dumb I'm lost for words. It offends me as a human being.

At the time where widows were used to be burnt alive unjustifiably just because their husband died,

The last prophet of God said:

"The one who looks after a widow or a poor person is like a Mujahid (warrior) who fights for Allah's Cause, or like him who performs prayers all the night and fasts all the day."

Sahih al-Bukhari 5353

India never ceases to amaze me as a crazy and savage country.

Thank you for reporting about this. I didn't know that sati (what I knew as sutti, or perhaps suttee, an old English spelling), was still practiced even today. Evil is everywhere.

If Modi stays on, satti will eventually reappear.

what about the widowers? Do the burn themselves when her wife dies? They should to become gods as they told he women . Here one can see, religion is always made by men to their own advantege. A widow in India is a useless burden. To get rid of her burn here on he same fire with the dead husband. Why waste wood for a woman?

So, even now with a law, the wife who have Faith should go to the flame with her dead husband... That's it?

Guys can anyone tell me why did people practiced Sati, even if they knew it was bad? Child marriages, etc.; I don't understand.

While Anusuya did not commit Sati other women did because of blind belief in the Puranas. Like Garuda Purana, Agni Purana, Kurama Srimad Bhagavatam etc.

Practice of forcefully burning widows is barbaric
But worshipping at a temple of Sati Mata is not equivalent to the above.
It is a completely different thing. Please don't be confused between the two.

If anyone sees anything like sari being forced to someone, pls report it immediately. If not keep your mouth shut.

Interesting so i wonder:
Is this still a regular practice?
When was the last time it was done?
Which Hindus ask for this practice?
Do Hindus do this secretly without it getting reported?
In the days before it was banned, how many satis occurred per year?

Was the Sati Incident in Bandha District reported in Indian Media? I cannot find any reference online. Can someone please send me a link if they are aware of any?

These women are burned alive, are they at least given drugs or something to deal with the horrific pain? Being burned alive is said to be the worst possible death. That's why so many chose to jump to their deaths from the twin towers on 9/11 rather than burning. It takes quite a while to cook to death while every single nerve ending on your body is screaming in pain.

Anasuya is one amongst the Rishi Patni-s worshipped by Bramhana-s during the daily Bramha-Yajna. May she bless us with chastity and freedom from lust.

Meanwhile in Japan, Seppuku is still glorified even though it was banned after World War 2. There are laws against it but people still do commit this barbaric ritual.
