This lead me to the solution!! I actually saw the setting for "Leave touchpad on when mouse is connected" and that allowed me to disable the trackpad only when I don't need it. Excellent. Thank you!

Hey, the way to disable is to go to search and type synaptics touchpad and click on it then after that check the box that says disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached. hope this helps :), I just want to put this here because of all the confusion about this :D
