Brunello di Montalcino for sure is one of the greatest, age worthy red wines of Italy, and it is born in Tuscany region and must be made from 100% Sangiovese grape variety. In this video I will talk about the Sangiovese grape, wines from Montalcino area, how Brunello di Montalcino is made, how it tastes like, recommended food pairings, as well as highly regarded producers of Brunello di Montalcino. And as small bonus, we will also cover wines from Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C.

I've had Il Greppo Riserva Biondi Santi and it's a magical wine. Only approachable after 20 years in bottle. Few of us have time and money on our hands. Good recommendations for affordability!

Omg Im so glad you made this video! I have been eying a 2016 vintage since I started to get into wine! It’ll be the most money I ever sent on wine but it’ll be a great start to my age worthy collection!

I visited Montalcino in the Autumn of 2020 and fell in love! It was that trip that made me really passionate about wine. Your video made me think of those amazing memories. I think sometime soon I'll have to open up one of the Brunellos that I have saved away.

Hello Agnes,
First of all thanks for sharing your passion.
I'm a big fan of Brunello di Montalcino and I totally agree with your selection.
"La Magia" is amazing, and Il Poggione" has consistent quality.
Can I suggest you to try, if it's not already done :
Lisini ( very classic style)
La Rasina ( very modern style)
and Albatreti ( very confidential) but the BEST for my taste....
See you soon in an other video ...
PS: Love your dog, it's so cute....😉

I can't forget my first BDM. I thought it would be similar like chianti classico. But BDM have a lot of layers of flavour. thank you for your detailed explaination.

I like Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona but if I am going for Sangiovese, it’s usually Chianti Classico and if I can find one, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. They may not be 100% Sangiovese but they are excellent and affordable options that can age well.

I really love Brunello wines. I would not say it is the best Brunello I have ever tasted, but Campogiovanni from San Felice is somewhat special for me. I used to be an ordinary guy who purchases wines only from supermarket time to time and consume within a month. But I had a chance to keep Campogiovanni BdM for an extra few years and opened it when my friends visited in New Year's Eve - it was a blast!! I first experienced how the wine evolves in the bottle and I will never forget the moment 😌😌 (btw, I love La Magia as well. I think it is one of the few gems left in affordable price tag compare to the other BdMs).

Ive had Rosso di montalcino a few times and it always seems very light and not as complex as a brunello. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Do you find the markups of riservas worth it or do you think they are overoaked and overpriced?
