Martin L. Gore - Motherless Child

Counterfeit e.p. is the first solo recording by Martin L. Gore, the primary songwriter for the band Depeche Mode.
Released in 1989, Counterfeit is a six-song E.P. of cover songs, hence the name, implying that the songs were not written by Gore. Counterfeit was recorded during a band hiatus after recording and touring for the album Music for the Masses.

"Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child", also "Motherless Child", is a traditional Negro spiritual. It dates back to the era of slavery in the United States. An early performance of the song dates back to the 1870s by the Fisk Jubilee Singers. Commonly heard during the Civil rights movement in the United States, it has many variations and has been recorded widely.
