When I found this gem of an album I was so excited especially being released in the 80's because I was craving more Martin Gore melancholy songs after Black Celebrations sound. This Counterfeit EP had that Black celebration sound despite 2-3 years later. Especially Manner of Speaking, Smile In The Crowd, Motherless Child felt like it belonged on black Celebration! Gone felt like Music For The Masses. This EP has that reverb and Alan Wilder production style too like Black Celebration. Compulsion was my least song I liked or played.
