I bought over 100+ of the most popular books since I've started my reading journey again this year and just 65+ books just this past month... so this calls for a book haul. I did my best to explain each of these titles so you have an idea of what each of these books are about :)

I always gotta read the first book before buying the entire series

I love she is reading but that is a lot of commitment for a new reader. I would suggest not buying that many books as a newbie. Ever.

Using B&N prices this is about 1k worth of books. No judgement and super excited to see folks get back into reading! Don't get too burnt out of super popular booktok books though. Spread out and enjoy what you like... Maybe even older books?
Free little libraries are a great way to check things out if you don't want a library card. Don't feel like you need to consume trendy things for people to engage.
Happy reading!

I don't understand how people can afford to buy this many books to fill a shelf. Don't shelf fill themselves over time. Like obviously it looks bomb, but yea idk..

The whole point of a library shelf is to add books to ut overtime, that way it’s more genuine. This act just lacks intentionality and genuine interests for book behind it.

This is the book equivalent of fast fashion. What the heck. Only two minutes in and of the four books you showed us, two are special editions of the first two. This is just another case of overconsumption being glorified. We have real libraries if you want to be around a lot of books. You can check out a reasonably sized pile without spending hundreds of dollars and without cluttering your home.

Edit: I’m highly amused. You put something on the internet, you’re going to get opinions. And my opinion is that overconsumption is a problem in every community. If you don’t see it then you don’t see it. All I know is, my life (and wallet) were a whole lot happier when I realized this and become a more conscious consumer. My rule of thumb is to wait a month before buying something that can be classified as a “want.” If I still want it after a month then I will get it. If I only wanted it because it was trendy and/or I thought it would momentarily feel good, then I didn’t really want it. But that’s me. Take it as you will.

i have no clue why people are hating. it's clear to me that your taste is impeccable because most of these books were like 5-stars for me and you're living my dream. i think most of the book are really similar to the ones you mentioned you liked so i don't think it's thoughtless- don't listen to them

i thinkk the reason your books aren't always the same size is because you have bought some normal paperbacks but also trade paperbacks! trade paperbacks are usually a bit bigger in size and a little bit more expensive, but there also should be the normal paperback version of the same book for sale :)

This feels really thoughtless, but perhaps there’s intentionality here and its just the repellent “haul” element that makes it feel that way.

First of all, sure you can buy books all you want, no problem.
But I wonder: Are you buying them just to fill your shelves, or are you genuinely interested in reading all of them?
Most of us have at most 10 new unread books at home (according to our TBR), which are going to be read after finishing the current book. Depending on our mood after finishing the current book, we choose one of these 10 books accordingly. Therefore the variety of 10 different books (at most!). Although 10 are plenty, 5 or even 1 are also more than enough.
But 100+ books kind of make it seem you buy them for "aestetics" only.
Which definitely defeats the purpose of reading at all.
Anyway if you are really capable of reading a book a day, then go for it.
Finishing 100 books seems like a tough goal. Deactivate your social media to stay focused and get into the reading marathon you planned for yourself regarding these books. Keep reading!

When I first got back into reading I probably bought like 30+ books and I really wish I didn’t. I learned my taste and realized I wouldn’t want to read like 50% of them 😭 hope you have better luck

I just started reading again but as an adult and whether I’m on TikTok or YouTube one thing I’ve noticed about the reading/book community is that a lot of people have a strong opinion about what others should do especially when it comes to hauls 😂 All I know is that I’ll be purchasing several books I seen in this video all at once.

The large size paperbacks are trade size, new release books are usually this size, and then months later they will release a regular paperback series. Usually I'll wait and buy the regular size, or if im desperate to read I'll get it from the library (ebook or regular) and then buy my own copy later

inheritance games is a 4 book series (she just came out with her 4th book omg omg omg) and if you’re an aesthetic girly her whole series has the ‘fancy’ covers AND
my fav series straight up, keeps you on the edge of your seat and up all night. SO MANY plot twists and the romance is linear and also triangular i can’t even explain
MUST MUST READ

For the Throne of Glass series, I read the Assassin’s Blade first! It helps to give much context about the main character and the world before jumping right into Throne of Glass. It leads right up to the beginning of TOG.

HEEYYYY. just wanted to let you know that the Never after series (Hooked, Twisteed, Scared, etc) technically is not a fantasy series, just so you don't get disappointed when you pick it up. It can be claseed as a fairytale retelling but its more like a fairytale inspired dark romance. but i loved the books, Hooked is my fave so

Long rant I'm sorry:

The reason people are acting up is because she bought them all at once, which may feel like overconsumption! Obviously I hate that ALL I'm seeing is arguments, and it's her money and she can do what she wants with it, but her buying only really popular books all at the same time can feel like a waste since if the hype dies down she may easily forget about them - overconsumption can cause larger issues relating to inflation, more waste products, and a general sense of "why is she buying books she might not read and not giving to other people in need too with the money she obviously has". Most booktubers start with a few books and then build up to 100+ as they read them. Many even only read digitally or in libraries and only buy physical series' if they know they liked the first one! They also do several book UNhauls, in which they donate to libraries books they didn't like or didn't read. So it isn't so much about the number, but about filling a shelf for the sake of filling a shelf when so many folks can't even afford one new book most days - like fast fashion but for reading. It may be her job, but 99% of booktubers only do small hauls if any and she could just as easily make a video like that, especially since she is mostly a vlogger rather than a booktuber so she has even more options there. Just because she was previously a bookworm, going back into reading with 100 books seems a bit silly since interests change and she may go back off reading again!! People commenting that they also have physical TBRs of 100+ books either have these same problems and not even an excuse of it being their jobs, or they accumulated those books over time.

I also want to back up the other point because I do agree with it as well!! If she has money she should choose what to do with it, provided it isn't actually harming anyone. This is her job, after all, so she has at least some excuse there. Everyone has collections that mean nothing, whether it's Pokémon cards or mugs or band tees - and many of these collections tend to be expensive. Joy and happiness are vital - even though physical health is more important, mental health and general joy is a close second! She has already read several of the books so I have faith that she will read the rest. I also know that some people love creating little libraries of their own, especially with the decline in actual libraries and/or funding for them, so their friends and family can find books they enjoy without having to pull off an arm and a leg!!

I feel like we can acknowledge overconsumption and call out large creators like Briddy for not using the platform they have to link charities for causes relating to people with less money than her and for not making unhaul videos or videos where she gives back, while still knowing that simple OWNING that many books, especially with how rare libraries are nowadays, isn't inherently negative - it just depends on the other background information, and sadly, in this case, the background information may indicate that Briddy's doing this for the aesthetic given that she's already done several hauls since this video and specifically mentioned she was doing it to fill her home library.
