How to Install Jeep Wrangler Mopar Tailgate Reinforcement in 11 Easy Steps

Installing Bigger Tires? Reinforce your tailgate to hold the larger spare. 10 steps to install the Mopar 82215356AB Tailgate Reinforcement Kit. Added a larger heavier tire to my Jeep Wrangler Willys Unlimited Ecodiesel. I wanted to make the tailgate stronger so I bought the Mopar Tailgate reinforcement kit. It was a pretty easy install and didn’t take very long. In my case I had to remove a Rough Country Spare tire relocation bracket. That bracket was added when I needed to lift the spare to clear the hitch on my Xventure XV-3 Off-Road Trailer. All the parts and a great set of instructions were included as well as a tool list.

I went from the stock 31” tire to a Toyo 285/75/17 M/T mounted on Mopar steelies. About a 2” difference. After completing the install the new tire fit very snugly on back of Jeep. There will not be any vibration or bouncing around of the spare.
Tailgate is noticeably stronger. If anything it will aid in durability.

I’ve tried to follow a lot of how-to videos. It’s rare that anyone takes the time to explain the little things in the instruction manual. Thank you for taking the time to create this video. Funny enough, Im watching this to see how to REMOVE the Mopar reinforcement that came with my JLUR with the XR package. Ive decided to upgrade to a GenRight tire carrier as I plan on eventually going with 40s.

So the rubicon comes with the same size tire and no tailgate reinforcement just a FYI. Xrecon with 35s is why this was offered.
